Holiday cottages in Scotland with gorgeous games rooms

Ruth 02 August 2019

Although Scotland promises unbelievable sights and lots of adventure, it can’t always promise good weather – that’s why booking a self-catering holiday cottage with a games room is always a great idea.

If you want a quiet day in where you can really enjoy the house, you’ll have plenty of space to spread out with loads of fun activities at your fingertips – whether you’re super competitive or just want to blow off some steam. A self-catering cottage with a games room is especially great for larger groups of friends and family on holiday together; having that one room where the madness can happen means the rest of the house can stay relaxing.

Quite often games rooms will include table tennis, table football, a darts board, a TV corner and a games cupboard but each owner manages to make them totally unique so you will always get some sort of surprise. Some of our really well-equipped houses also have swimming pools, cinema rooms, outdoor tennis courts and hot tubs too, which makes it hard to leave the property at all!

Looking for a little inspiration before booking a Scottish getaway? Here are our favourite properties with games rooms:

Rhumhor House, Argyll and Bute

Rhumhor House, Argyll and Bute

Sleeping 9, this is an impressive and characterful Victorian house enjoying incredible views over the sea loch of Goil. Set in the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National park the holiday home is perfectly situated for adventure breaks and exploring the great Scottish outdoors. The house itself is well equipped for large families and groups of friends, with spacious living areas and a fabulous games room. Here you will find a snug area with TV and DVD’s and a pool table for evening and rainy day entertainment.

On sunny days the decked area with BBQ is the perfect place to sit with good food and company and there is even a hot tub for times where you really need to relax!

Outfield, Perth and Kinross

"Outfield is set in the middle of countryside with beautiful views. The house is very cosy and well equipped. There is a large hot tub which is lovely to sit and view the beautiful scenery or star gaze on a clear night. The wellness centre has some gym equipment and houses the sauna." Phyllis, 2021

This charming cottage enjoys a peaceful location set in the Perthshire countryside and makes for a lovely holiday home, sleeping six. Being surrounded by 40 acres of countryside it promises a remote and relaxing break, with loads of walks on the doorstep. Part of a small complex of properties, the cottage also offers access to a fabulous range of shared extras including a sauna, gym and a games room. Enjoy table tennis, croquet, pool and darts on a rainy day or slow morning.

Kinlochewe Lodge, Kinlochewe

This traditional fishing lodge on the banks of the Bruchaig River offers guests a private spot with panoramic views over Loch Maree. Welcoming up to 18 guests and 3 dogs, Kinlochewe Lodge provides a mix of formal and informal spaces including both a games room and music room. Achnasmeorach House, West Coast

“Achnasmeorach House is quite simply stunning and the location breathtaking! The house has been beautifully restored to an exceptional standard and the facilities, hot tub, games room and a well-stocked boathouse ensured that a good time was had by all. A very special place to spend time with family and friends!” - Mrs Leslie, 2019

This amazing house, set on the shores of Loch Awe, is a hidden gem that will have you all coming back for more. There is no end of entertainment at this impressive Victorian villa with private shoreline, boathouse, jetty, beach, garden, hot tub, and games cabin. Comfortably sleeping 10, there is plenty of space for everyone to fully enjoy a relaxing holiday in this all-in-one location. New Lodge, Highlands

This is an amazing rural retreat for a large group of friends or a few families to get together in, with plenty of on-site entertainment to keep you busy for days. Located beside the River Carron, it is set in the open countryside with views of woodland, hills, and sea – magic! This house is a purpose-built holiday home which means it has been fully thought out to offer you the highest standard of holiday accommodation possible. It is spacious, modern and bright inside with plenty of sociable areas, but the really impressive feature is the separate games barn which can double up as a ceilidh/party space. Complete with snooker, table tennis, table football, TV, snug area and wood burner, it really is a remarkable space.
