About the area
Kintail is a wild landscape with exceptional mountain scenery, which includes the magnificent ridge of the Five Sisters. It consists of montane habitats and species that are typical of the area as well as a coastal fringe where there is considerable evidence of a settled landscape, reflecting people’s use of the area over more than five millennia.
Features
* A designated National Scenic Area indicates that the landscape is of national significance
* The battle site of Glen Shiel is the only battle site in Scotland with upstanding remains of constructions associated with static positions prepared in advance of fighting on the day, as a result they are a scheduled ancient monument
* Kintail has six Munros (mountains over 914m) and three of these are on the famous Five Sisters ridge which forms the south side of Gleann Lichd
