Shetland Museum and Archives
Sitting alongside a restored 19th century dock a short walk from the centre of Lerwick, the Shetland Museum and Archives, is the perfect place to get your bearings at the start of your Shetland holiday.
Numerous displays and special audio visual presentations describe Shetland’s story from earliest times to the present day, including its geology, history and archaeology. The sea has played a crucial role in the lives of Shetland’s people. The massive boat hall contains a wide variety of boats of all ages suspended from the ceiling and there is also an historic boat-building shed.
