Unst & Yell
Shetland
About the area
Located just beyond mainland Shetland, this is the Trust’s most northerly estate. It is made up of ten parcels of land, eight of which are on Unst. The smallest is the 12ha (30a) island of Daaey, off Fetlar. The area is of special interest to geologists, botanists and birdwatchers. The three west coast areas of Woodwick, Collaster and Lund offer outstanding scenery, with undulating hills, a low rocky coastline, beaches, cliffs and voes, all typical of Unst. There is an interesting wood – the only one on Unst – at Halligarth, containing mostly sycamores. Most of the land is farmed and the island is also home to a first-class Shetland pony stud.
