Attractions
Scotland boasts an extraordinarily rich cultural heritage, 8,000 or 9,000 years of human activity having shaped both the land and the lives of the people.
Wherever you go you will see the evidence for these activities, whether it be the remains of 3,000 year old houses and field walls now covered by heathery moorland, pointing to a time when the climate was milder than now, or the Iron Age brochs built possibly to defend the owners, demonstrate the owners’ power and wealth, keep the owners warm...there are lots of theories.
You can also visit the site where the earliest Scots kings were crowned, see the enigmatic Pictish symbol stones, visit mediaeval castles, abbeys and battlefields. Then there are the numerous sites associated with the Industrial Revolution, and “modern” industries like whisky distilleries, breweries and factories making exquisite Scottish food. There are harbours, farms, crofts, agricultural and fishing museums, museums and heritage centres reflecting every aspect of Man’s activities, and collections of Scotland’s ancient and modern animals, birds, plants, fish, insects and plants.
You will find more information on all of these attractions in this section of the website, together with specific examples of each and lists of the self catering properties in the immediate area.
