Perthshire

Situated in the heart of Scotland, Perthshire is the area where some of the most beautiful, interesting and inspiring examples of Highland and Lowland scenery and culture meet.

Roughly half of Perthshire lies in the Southern Highlands, to the north and west of the Highland boundary fault. Like its neighbours to east and west, this is an area of beautiful hills, glens and lochs, some of the great names including: Ben Vorlich, Ben Lawers and Schiehallion; Glen Shee, Glen Garry and Glen Lyon; and Lochs Tummel, Rannoch, Tay and Earn. Needless to say. spectacular walks, climbs and cycle routes are in plentiful supply, as are some fantastic fishing experiences, ancient castles and delightful restaurants, pubs and quality shops.  You can also ski, visit whisky distilleries, watch wildlife… or just relax and soak up the views.

South of Highland Perthshire lies… Lowland Perthshire, rolling prosperous farms dotted with villages and market towns like Blairgowrie, Crieff, Auchterarder, Kinross and, of course, the “Fair City of Perth”. Here you will find well known names like the Gleaneagles Hotel and Golf Resort, Scone Palace, and the Famous Grouse Whisky Experience in Crieff, and you can walk or hill walk on the Ochil Hills, fish (rivers or Loch Leven), cycle or enjoy exploring beautiful Perth.

Most well known of the Perthshire golf courses is the famous Gleneagles with the world class King's Course, Queen's Course and PGA Centenary Course - absolute must for any golf aficionado - as well as other renowned courses such as Taymouth Castle, Blair Atholl and King James VI, there really is something for any golf enthusiast.

Finally, Perth’s central location makes it an ideal base from which to explore both the Highlands and Lowlands on day trips.
