Holidays in Lairg And Central Sutherland
The beautiful little village of Lairg nestles on the shore of Loch Shin where the River Shin leaves it to tumble down to the Kyle of Sutherland below.
Lairg offers some lovely walks, including a trail up Ord Hill that takes you through 5,000 years of local archaeology and history. Ferrycroft is an excellent little heritage centre that focuses on Man and the Highland environment through time. The famous Falls of Shin and its leaping salmon is a few minutes’ drive away and the Falls of Shin Visitor Centre sells a wide range of books, gifts and meals in its restaurant.
The varied village shops reflect Lairg’s location at the hub of Sutherland’s road network and the fact that it serves a vast area of coastal villages and inland estate lodges and cottages. The villages of Rosehall, Lochinver, Scourie, Kinlochbervie, Durness, Tongue, Bettyhill, Helmsdale, Brora, Golspie, Dornoch, Bonar Bridge and Ardgay are all within easy reach.
