Ayrshire

Ayrshire sits on the Firth of Clyde, looking out towards Ailsa Craig and Arran.

Its long, rocky coastline is dotted with picturesque towns and fishing villages like Ayr, Saltcoats, Irvine and Girvan, while Largs is the ferry port for the pretty little island of Great Cumbrae and Ardrossan for the Isle of Arran.

The pleasant climate and numerous beaches of the Ayrshire coast have attracted families for almost 200 years and it is no surprise that the land alongside them has been transformed into some of the world’s most famous links golf courses, Turnberry, Troon and Prestwick to name but three.

Inland, the rich farmland produces outstanding lamb, pork, beef and venison, as well as cheeses, ice cream, preserves and vegetables. With fresh ingredients like these to play with you need never go hungry!

Great days out in Ayrshire include visits to various Burns monuments and museums and to castles like Culzean, Dundonald and Dean; to the Viking experience at Vikingar, Largs, the Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine, the Museum of Country Life & Costume near Kilwinning, Loudoun Theme Park, near Galston, the Kelburn Castle & Country Centre near Largs and the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park. Numerous events and festivals are held throughout the year.

Finally, in addition to golf, you can enjoy a whole series of walks from the easy to the challenging, sail, sea kayak, cycle, horse ride, visit magnificent gardens and watch wildlife.
