Holidays in East Ayrshire

East Ayrshire is a long thin district running parallel to the Ayrshire coast, with rolling farmland on its west side and rolling hills and moors on its east.

East Ayrshire was a major textile area in the past and there are still some excellent mill shops, including knitwear in Galston and furnishing fabrics and lace in Newmilns and Darvel.

Kilmarnock is the main town, a bustling place with some interesting shops, attractive buildings, a museum and the Dean Castle Country Park .

Mauchline, south of Kilmarnock, was home to Robert Burns from 1784 to 1788 and has a museum celebrating the fact. East Ayrshire offers some very pleasant walks and cycle routes – part of a wider network running right across Ayrshire.
