Floors Castle
Kelso
Floors Castle was originally built for the 1st Duke of Roxburghe in 1721 and was first opened to the public in 1977. The Castle was designed by the Architect William Adam and is situated in the heart of the Scottish Borders, overlooking the Cheviot Hills and the River Tweed. It is the largest inhabited castle in Scotland and is home to the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe.
The Castle is still very much a family home but opens to the public so that you can admire the fine art work, beautifully kept gardens and extensive parkland. Why not pay a visit to this regal residence?
After admiring the grand rooms and interior architecture you and your children can run wild in the large Adventure Playground and Picnic Area. The ancient Walled Gardens contain a cosy Coffee Shop which entices you in with smells of fresh baking a strong coffee. The shop next door sells Castle produce and local arts and crafts – which are sure to pull at your purse strings. For those that enjoy the aromatic smells of home cooking, the Castle’s fine Restaurant awaits you and the Duke’s chef prepares wonderful light lunches and hot meals.
Magnificent Castle Gardens, historical architecture and ancient artefacts will make your visit to Floors Castle extremely enjoyable, adding a bit of art and culture to your self-catering holiday.
