Holiday Cottage Details

Standing proudly beside the burn which once turned its wheel, this listed late 18th Century mill has been transformed into something truly special.  Peacefully situated within a tiny hamlet on The Mull of Kintyre, Machrimore Mill is a stunningly restored holiday home within a mile of beautiful sandy beaches.

A magnificent oak and glass staircase links the three floors of this stylish and beautifully presented house.  Throughout, the interiors are exciting and impressive yet retain a feeling of comfort and warmth.  Natural light floods in from the many windows and the rich oak floors are kept invitingly warm by cosy under floor heating.

This wonderful and sympathetic mill conversion combines immense character and charm with all the comforts of modern life.  Sink into one of the sumptuous chairs in the elegant beamed ground floor sitting room and relax in front of the cosy wood-burning stove.  Follow the stairs down to the garden level where you will find one of those immediately appealing open-plan living spaces with a fully equipped kitchen and large dining area with high beamed ceilings.  This wonderfully sociable room, which leads into a relaxed sitting area, is ideal for family and friends to gather after an exhilarating day spent exploring this beautiful area.  French doors open onto a pretty sun-trap terrace and garden which looks onto Coniglen Water.

There are two relaxing first floor bedrooms either side of the galleried landing which has been thoughtfully furnished for children with bean-bag chairs, books, games and a DVD player.  You are sure to be comfortable in the attractive and extremely spacious master bedroom on the ground floor and there is a further pretty twin bedroom with its own stylish wet room and door leading straight onto the garden terrace making it an ideal holiday destination for all ages.

Enjoying the effects of the warm Gulf Stream and low rainfall, this beautiful and inspiring area is ideal for all outdoor enthusiasts, with miles of romantic, unspoilt Atlantic shoreline and deserted beaches to explore, endless wildlife to spot and many beautifully scenic walks to enjoy including the newly established Kintyre Way.  This is an ideal base for the keen golfer with many courses nearby including Dunaverty, Gigha, Carradale & Tarbert.  The first hole of local Machrihanish Golf Course is renowned for being one of the best in the world.  There are also many local restaurants offering freshly caught shellfish.

Pack a picnic and spend a family day on one of the many beaches and you have every chance of seeing seals, dolphins, whales, otters and a remarkable collection of sea birds & waders as well as beautiful wild orchids which live amongst the summer profusion of flowers.

There is so much to see and do for all ages - music festivals, highland games, Ceilidh dances, pony trekking & sea tours.  Visit The Scottish Owl Centre in Campbeltown or one of the many ancient sites such as the historic Kilmartin Glen & Museum.  Catch a ferry from Kintyre and enjoy a day trip to the surrounding islands of Gigha, Islay, Jura, Colonsay and Arran.
