More about Easter Ross and The Black Isle
Ross and Cromarty straddles the Northern Highlands of Scotland and is gloriously diverse and stunningly beautiful throughout.
To the East, around the Beauly, Cromarty and Dornoch Firths, lies the rich agricultural land of the Black Isle and Easter Ross and pretty and historic coastal villages and towns like Tain, Dingwall, Cromarty and Avoch. Here there is much to enjoy with many great walking trails (for all abilities). As well as taking to the local golf courses and water ways for fishing. There is much to see in this spectacular area including an array of wild and sea-life along with a fascinating history, take a boat trip to see bottle-nose dolphins, or visit ancient monuments, as well as using it as a base to explore the wider Highlands by car or bike.
Inland, to the west, the farmland rapidly gives way to beautiful wooded hills and glens which in turn give way to wild, open moorland, rivers, lochs and enticing mountain ranges like the Fannichs.
Wester Ross is justly famed for its beauty. Running from near Ullapool in the north to Loch Carron in the south, the coastline contains numerous long inlets and sheltered bays like Loch Broom, Loch Ewe, Gairloch and Loch Torridon; wonderful beaches like those on Gruinard Bay and Gairloch; and small villages where local fishermen land their lobsters and prawns. Overlooking the coastline are famous mountain ranges like the Torridons and An Teallach, with lochs like Loch Maree completing the scene. Along the coastal regions there are also many opportunities to see whales and dolphins from boat trips as well as enjoying the beautiful scenery that surrounds the famous Beallach nam Bo hill road to Applecross.
