Castle Rental Details

Sitting on the fringe of Holy Loch in the Trossachs National Park and enjoying beautiful views, Old Kilmun House is a delightful 17th century mansion house.  Built by Cambells and then expanded at the turn of the 19th century by the Younger family, this “Grade A” listed property has been upgraded through assistance from Historic Scotland to create a stunning large holiday house. Set in 2.5 acres of pretty, well maintained gardens and featuring a summer house, there is plenty to explore and a variety of activities available to enable guests to make the most of the good weather during the summer months. But it’s a wonderfully cosy retreat during the winter, too.  It is one of our most popular houses, attracting consistently excellent feedback from weekenders and people who have spent whole holiday weeks in the house.

Decorated and furnished to a high standard throughout, with cosy open fires and stoves in addition to electric and oil central heating ensuring a comfortable stay. The attractive kitchen / breakfast room features an AGA as well as electric cooker. The sitting room with library and open fire is the perfect area to retire to on a quiet evening in.  The wood-panelled dining room, again with an open fire, is a stunning room.  The play-space downstairs - a large snug / TV room with full SKY PLUS and DVD player, along with a separate games room (darts, table football) and a billiard room with 0.75 sized billiard table - means the party has plenty of space to spread into. Children and adults alike will find that there is plenty to do at this holiday rental property itself with the accommodation coming complete with bicycles, fishing rods, golf clubs as well as a football goal, croquet and badminton set and trampoline.

The area surrounding Old Kilmun House is rich in Scottish history and has numerous varied activities on offer.  The house sits between an arboretum and the church and graveyard which is the final resting place of relatives of the Duke of Argyll.  The area is one of unspoilt beauty and is truly spectacular with abundant coastline.  Loch Lomond, Loch Fyne, Inverary, and the Kyles of Bute are within accessible distance. Delightful woodland walks start at the house, and visits can be made to the internationally renowned Younger Botanic Gardens in Benmore.  Fishing, sailing, quad biking, clay-pigeon shooting and 3 golf courses are within a short driving distance from the property.  Good shopping facilities and amenities are available in Dunoon, ten minutes away.

It should be noted that a self contained wing of the house is under separate ownership. This does not take anything away from the enjoyment our clients get from this most impressive house, one of our most popular and often re-visited properties.
