Castle Rental Details

Ormidale is a truly magnificent, beautifully maintained, historic house, set in 20 acres of mainly wooded private grounds in gorgeous scenery just above the Kyles of Bute, with its own lochan, river, and waterfalls. It is one of our most popular properties.  The owners have a philosophy of continual investment and improvement, and in the last year have spent £50,000 on upgrades to all bathrooms and to redecoration of the main public areas.

Together with the two renovated steadings – The Old Barn and The Mill House – and a newly refurbished wee cottage, Ormidale now offers 4 star standard accommodation for up to 60 adults and 75 guests in total.  The original house was built in 1696, with a wing designed by Sir Robert Lorimer added in 1900. It was once a seat of Clan Campbell.

The main house boasts a large kitchen, full size snooker room, play room, two TV rooms, breakfast room, dining hall for 24, and formal drawing room with open fire.  A heated indoor swimming pool is shared between the three houses. The garden facilities include a tennis court, a bouncy castle, and individual hot tubs / Jacuzzis for each house.

The private grounds, designed by renowned Victorian landscaper Thomas Mawson of Kendal, include a lovely south-facing sun terrace with a Historic Scotland Grade “A” listed Sundial. Guests can walk for an hour within the gardens, with direct access into the forests and onto the mountains.  The surrounding countryside is wonderfully diverse.  A variety of outdoor sports including golf, sailing, fishing, shooting, and stalking are available locally.

This corner of Argyll is fabulously well-served by excellent restaurants. Invercottage, the Colintraive Hotel, An Lochan, and the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar all offer great food in stunning locations. 

Beautifully equipped and furnished with antiques, with crystal and silver for the dining table, beautiful Egyptian linen, goose-down and feather duvets and pillows, no corners have been cut or expense spared in equipping Ormidale. The house comes with a dozen bikes, four sets of golf clubs, & fishing rods. Other garden features include a large trampoline, croquet lawn, separate football pitch, BBQ, 40 metre zip-wire and midge machines!  Guests enjoy two hours of exclusive use of the swimming pool during the day, and shared access for all bar the four hours reserved to guests in the other houses. This impressive large house comes highly recommended for either a lazy and relaxing or active and action-packed Scottish holiday.

First Floor
Six twin/double rooms, three with ensuite shower rooms, a double room with en-suite bathroom with shower over bath, a twin room, a double bedroom, a triple room, a quadruple bunk room for children, a bathroom with wc, a bathroom with Jacuzzi bath and shower above, a twin shower room, and an eight person sauna. All bar two bedrooms have wash-hand basins.

Second Floor
Two twin/triple rooms, a double room, and a Jacuzzi bathroom with shower over bath and wc. All three bedrooms have washhand basins.

Activities

Stalking, sailing and other water sports, golf, fishing and shooting available locally, forest walks and cycle tracks; Dunoon 16 miles (ferry to Gourock for Glasgow and Ayrshire). Access to shared swimming pool, trampoline, shared outdoor children's play area, football pitch,  zip wire, billiard room with full size billiard table, tennis court (shared with other houses), table tennis, Gas BBQ, charcoal BBQ, Three midge machines, Hot Tub / Jacuzzi (extra £50 per weekend, or £100 per full week.)
