Beautiful Uiginish Lodge sits at the end of a single track road on the North West coast of Skye and beyond are long walks along the shoreline, cliff tops and beaches where there is nothing but the sound of birdsong and the sea. It is a truly spectacular location – just walk from the garden across the paddock and you are at the seashore and the views of Dunvegan Castle are wonderful. Eagles are regular visitors here and you have a good chance of seeing these magnificent creatures along with numerous other wildlife including the famous Dunvegan seals, otters, deer and a multitude of birds.
This beautiful 18th century house, the former dower house of Dunvegan Castle, has been sympathetically and stylishly refurbished to create a wonderfully spacious, light house over three floors. You might spend the most time in the fantastic kitchen/dining/sitting room which stretches the full length of the house. The door to the garden brings the outside in as do the many long windows – it is a lovely room. The large Aga at one end and the wood burning stove at the other end make this cosy all year, and it joins directly to the snug, where you can curl up and read or watch TV. The open plan sitting room on the first floor has a wonderful view of the sea loch and Castle, while the top floor library provides a quiet retreat.
The bedrooms are equally bright and light and the 4 bedrooms at the front have delightful views down to the sea and across to Dunvegan Castle, and the rear rooms have views of the flat topped Tables of MacLeod. Throughout the house there is a sense of light and space with wooden floors, antique furniture and some fascinating modern art it is a house to enjoy and perfect for a family holiday.
Outside there is a fully enclosed lawned garden and easy access to the shoreline. You can launch or hire a boat across at Dunvegan jetty and Uiginish Lodge has its own boathouse. Have a swim - the water is clear and clean if chilly! Try your hand at sea fishing or take a RIB boat trip to visit Eigg, Muck and Rhum for the day. Locally, if you tire of self catering, you are spoilt for choice with the famous Michelin starred Three Chimneys just two miles away and there is fantastic seafood available at the ancient Stein Inn or the Lochbay Seafood Restaurant (also in Stein, about 15-20 minutes drive).
This house is very special, and the fulfilment of a dream for its owner. If you want to enjoy fabulous landscapes, breathtaking sea views, long walks, a shoreline location and above all a sense of relaxation and escape, then this is for you.
