This wonderfully grand Georgian house has been a family home for the past 4 centuries and is a delightful and gracious home surrounded by 2000 acres of estate land. The house is a mere 12 miles from St Andrews yet enjoys all the peace and quiet of its secluded rural location. There are a number of cottages on the estate as well as three separate apartments available for parties who have a large number of guests. The mainline (London) railway station is only 15 minutes drive and Edinburgh airport a mere 50 minutes away.
The main house has spacious, high ceilinged rooms with open fire and a wealth of original features including a beautiful hall with its stone flagged floor and pillars. Antiques and fine paintings are throughout so the house provides a truly attractive temporary home when you are here for the Open Golf. With a large drawing room, library and dining room the house has plenty of public space and should you wish to offer entertainment to clients then Mountquhanie can comfortably accommodate a marquee on the west lawn. The views here are lovely – open parkland and farmland to the front and the rolling hills of Fife in the distance whilst the rear looks across the lawn to the original ancient ruins of Mountquhanie Castle.
The bedrooms have traditional country house feel with a lovely mix of antiques and the modern conveniences you would expect. There are lovely views across the parkland from this very lovely house. With good access to St Andrews and within easy reach of mainline stations such as Dundee or Leuchars, Mountquhanie is a wonderful house to take for the Open Golf and a perfect refuge for the end of a day amidst the hustle and bustle of the course.
