Peering over a dramatic cliff drop with the Irish Sea bouncing of the coast The House of Knock enjoys a truly spectacular location. This grand Edwardian property is situated in the southernmost corner of Scotland with far reaching views across the wonderful seascape over to the Mull of Kintyre and to the Irish coast.
Immediately surrounding the house are three acres of enclosed well kept gardens home to the resident peacock. These beautiful richly diverse gardens are nicely sheltered by shrubs, and a fantastic splash of colour is added by daffodils, fuchsias, hydrangeas and rhododendrons. This magical garden where deer can sometimes be seen grazing then falls away to the secluded beach below, which is only accessible by foot. The cliff to the beach is safely but discretely fenced. This corner of Scotland enjoys a mild climate with both Palm trees and yuccas flourishing.
The majority of the rooms are bright with south facing views over the coast. The impressive drawing room with its elaborate fireplace comes complete with a turret from which the views are nothing short of breathtaking. The luxury fitted kitchen with a great breakfast table has been extremely well finished to a very high standard. The rest of the accommodation is comfortable and spacious and many of the bedrooms offer lovely views from around the holiday house.
The appealing harbour village of Portpatrick, where hotels, pubs and even a pottery centre can be found, is close by and is definitely worth visiting. The beach and the rugged coast are perfect for exploring and the area boasts some of Scotland’s most beautiful gardens thanks to the mild oceanic climate, and the warming influence of the Gulf Stream.
Dumfries and Galloway is home to the famous Galloway Forest Park, the largest forest park in Britain, the spectacular park covers over 300 square miles of sensational forest, moorland and lochs. The park has an abundance of wildlife with a red deer range, wild goat park and red squirrel feeding stations. Birds of prey live in the forest and buzzards can often be seen circling. Occasionally golden eagles and rare red kites which were successfully introduced to the park in 2001 are spotted.
