Situated in the early 19th century stable block of the magnificent National Trust for Scotland’s Haddo House, this first-floor holiday home retains many of its original features. Huge double doors below used to open to accommodate the Earls of Aberdeen’s coaches, and the stables opposite have their original cobbled floors, stalls, hayracks, and mounting steps to help riders mount their horses with dignity – it is still easy to imagine it all.
Once home to the estate’s coachmen and grooms, this traditional building has been carefully converted to create a two-bedroom cosy holiday flat. The beautifully furnished rooms with their pretty fabrics and elegant antique furniture will make your stay comfortable and relaxing.
Haddo House was built in the 1730s by William Adam for the Earls of Aberdeen. Set in a magnificent 200-acre country park and only 20 minutes north of Aberdeen, this wonderful house contains a wealth of exquisite furnishings and works of art reflecting over 250 years of continuous occupation by the renowned Gordon family. Surrounding the house is a delightful terrace garden with geometric rose beds and fountains, a lavish herbaceous border and secluded glades and knolls. The adjacent country park offers beautiful walks around lakes and monuments where there is an abundance of wildlife.
Aberdeenshire is famous for its mountains, including the spectacular Grampians and Cairngorms, and this area is rich in ancient Pictish monuments and beautifully preserved castles. This fascinating, historic area is well worth a visit at any time of year, with a wide variety of things to do and places to see, offering something for everyone.
