Blue Door is a glorious National Trust for Scotland holiday cottage situated down a charming narrow wynd in the coastal town of Kirkcudbright where the artists E A Taylor and his wife Jessie M King once lived. Packed full of character and charm, this delightful cottage sleeps up to seven guests in luxury country-style comfort.
Inside, this traditional stone cottage has managed to retain its wonderful rustic character with open beamed ceilings and a traditional fireplace in the sitting room. Throughout, it has been furnished to an extremely high standard with many wonderful pieces of antique furniture. The charming bedrooms are all fresh and bright with the emphasis on comfort and relaxation, and the superbly equipped kitchen creates a wonderful homely feel.
Enjoying a sheltered position in the estuary of the River Dee, the ancient Royal Burgh of Kirkcudbright was once a medieval market town and has been home to generations of creative artists including the Glasgow Boys and the famed Scottish Colourists such as Samuel J Peploe and F C B Cadell. Drawn by the continuously changing light, E A Hornel and George Henry also moved here from Glasgow and their presence led to the town becoming known as The Artists’ Town.
