Thrums Cottage is a dreamy terraced self-catering cottage just two doors away from the birthplace of J M Barrie, creator of the magical Peter Pan. Now in the care of the National Trust for Scotland, this 18th-century red sandstone cottage is very well equipped and beautifully decorated throughout, with hints of the Peter Pan theme.
The charming sitting room with its traditional open fire creates a wonderful homely atmosphere allowing you to quickly relax into holiday mood. After a happy day exploring this beautiful part of Scotland you can be assured of a comfortable night’s sleep in one of the two pretty upstairs bedrooms – perhaps you may even enter the enchanting world of Neverland! The Peter Pan garden to the rear is shared with J M Barrie's Birthplace and contains a living-willow crocodile and ‘Pirates Workshop’.
Thrums Cottage is conveniently situated in the friendly and historic town of Kirriemuir, making it an ideal base for exploring the beautiful region of Angus with its rich mixture of wild countryside and mountains. The local Glen Clova, Glen Prosen and Glen Isla give a spectacular taste of the Highlands. Dating back to the 13th century, this warm red sandstone town with its winding narrow cobbled streets was once known for its handloom weaving. In 1860 J M Barrie was born here, the son of a weaver, and he went on to create the magical Peter Pan which has given generations of children and adults so much pleasure. In 1930 Barrie was given the freedom of Kirriemuir and subsequently presented the town with the cricket pavilion on Kirrie Hill, and the Camera Obscura within – this is one of only three in the country and the views from the top are stunning.
