Recognised as one of the most important nature conservation landscapes in the British Isles, the impressive estate of Mar Lodge was acquired by the National Trust for Scotland in 1995. With five architecturally important 19th-century buildings, this spectacular Scottish Highland estate occupies a substantial part of the remote and scenic Cairngorms National Park and includes four of the five highest mountains in Britain. The 800 hectares of historic native Caledonian woodland is an essential habitat for red squirrel, black grouse, capercaillie and many rare species of Scottish birds as well as spectacular wild flowers and fungi. Much of the headwaters of the River Dee comes from the mountains of this glorious estate and the river plays a major role in the continuation of the great Scottish salmon.
Giving a wonderful sense of Highland remoteness and relaxed privacy, this sensational holiday home is just six miles from the friendly village of Braemar and positioned in the extensive grounds of Mar Lodge. Being just a few minutes’ walk apart through woodland, Creag Bhalg and Claybokie (sleeps 10) form their own exclusive small estate.
Sleeping up to 8 guests, Creag Bhalg creates the perfect opportunity to enjoy this magical part of Scotland in blissful comfort and elegant style. With uninterrupted views across the River Dee and Glen Ey, this beautifully presented single-storey house is cleverly designed to blend in with its natural surroundings and creates a perfect holiday destination for all ages and abilities.
This truly luxurious holiday home has generously proportioned rooms that are all beautifully furnished with fine antiques and wonderful paintings. The welcoming wood-panelled sitting room with its roaring log fire, antlers, delightful tartan carpet and sumptuous silk tasselled sofas has all the characteristics of a grand Highland lodge, while the wonderful open-plan kitchen and dining room is ideal for informal and relaxed holiday dinners. There are four delightfully comfortable bedrooms, all of which have ensuite bathrooms, and the master bedroom has French doors that open out on to the pretty garden.
There are numerous places on this fabulous estate to explore. The miles of heather-clad hills and several nearby Munros will entice the keen walker, while the scenic stone village of Braemar has some excellent shopping and places of interest including the ruins of the 14th century Kindrochit Castle and an excellent 18 hole golf course.
