Holmes House is perhaps better known as the Scottish Borders Donkey Sanctuary and the paddocks around this house are filled with wonderful donkeys as well as chickens, peacocks and ponies - a child's delight! The famous River Tweed borders the estate and you have Brown Trout fishing free with Fishermans and may be able to get a salmon fishing licence locally. There are numerous delightful walks through the estate which runs to 80 hectares and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to the rare and beautiful wild flowers.
The house itself provides modest but spacious accommodation over two floors and even has a children's play room/nursery making it an ideal location for a family. Whilst this is a very traditional house, it has all you need for a great family holiday on a budget. There is a spacious kitchen complete with Aga, full central heating, laundry room, ample parking and wonderful grounds along with 4 good sized bedrooms and a playroom.
The surrounding area has numerous activities available with golf courses, riding schools, fishing and the woollen mills and beautiful Border towns to explore. The house is within walking distance of the delightful village of St Boswells with a good local pub.
