Imaginatively converted from a 19th-century corn mill on the historic Threave Estate, this charming National Trust for Scotland property has been created into two very comfortable self-catering cottages. Granary Cottage (along with Millwheel Cottage, sleeping 4) has been fully refurbished to an exceptionally high standard and creates an idyllic base for exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside and coastline.
Granary Cottage offers everything in the way of modern-day comfort needed for an unforgettable holiday. The charming upstairs sitting room with its high beamed ceiling is elegantly furnished with antiques and paintings, and the electric ‘multi-fuel style’ stove keeps it warm and cosy on those chilly nights. The superbly equipped kitchen is a cook’s dream with everything you could expect, and the attractive open-plan dining area is full of country-style character. Outside, the small patio area to the rear is perfect for those lazy, hot, summer days relaxing while enjoying the flowing waters of the nearby Slackie Burn.
The magnificent 1,500-acre Threave Estate, set in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway, is owned and managed by the National Trust for Scotland. Best known for its superb 60-acre gardens and springtime daffodils, Threave also comprises an internationally important and extensive wetland wildfowl refuge for wintering wildfowl and breeding waders. The estate has an excellent network of marked trails, with bird hides overlooking farmland, marshes and the beautiful River Dee.
Dumfries and Galloway has many areas of breathtaking beauty and places of interest, including wonderful beaches, forests, lochs and historic castles. There are over 30 golf courses to be enjoyed as well as hill walking, cycling and water sports.
