The fusion of a traditional farmhouse with a truly stunning contemporary timber and glass addition makes the Dower House a unique and spectacular holiday home on the wonderful 3,000 acre Straloch Estate. A much-loved family house, this energy efficient property has breathtaking views over the estate’s own private loch down the beautiful Stathardle Glen with its rugged mix of trees, hills and fields.
With its large well equipped kitchen at the heart of this house, a substantial dining table, island unit and French doors leading to a terrace ideal for outside dining, give a real ambience of comfort and relaxed family living whilst every thought has been given to modern conveniences including a bespoke wine chiller/drinks fridge and an Everhot stove. An elegant drawing room, again with French doors leading to the terrace, and an open fire, provides a spacious and graceful room in which to relax, whilst a further cosy sitting room can also double as a bedroom.
Six tasteful and comfortable bedrooms offer a choice from fantastic ensuite bedrooms with spectacular views across the loch and fields, to wonderfully cosy bedrooms with coombed ceilings and deeply recessed windows giving all the charm of a by gone era. This wonderful property provides holiday accommodation of the highest standard with its oak and glass finishes, superb window dressings and under flooring heating powered by geothermal energy. The stunning double height entrance hall provides the glass link between the old and new allowing daylight to flood into the house.
The Dower House has been converted with a discerning eye and is complete with all the finishing touches: original artwork, fine cotton sheets, generous sized towels, interesting books, a selection of CDs and games, Sony Bravia TV (access to Sky), DVD player and a Bose iPod unit.
The landscaped garden includes a ten seater table, separate patio area with smaller table, kids tree house and swing unit. The house and outside area has full disabled access, with the downstairs bedroom and converted bathroom suitable for wheel chair access.
Set in the heart of Perthshire there is much to offer the holidaymaker in this area. Walkers can enjoy many wonderful walks ranging from Munros to low-level walks including the Cateran Trail, the route used by cattle rustlers in the 15th century, whilst golfers will love the numerous top golf courses within easy reach. The bustling holiday town of Pitlochry with its shops and festival theatre is only 7 miles away and with the A9 providing fast links to both north and south, this is an ideal base for touring the whole of Scotland.
Alternatively enjoy the pleasures closer to home on the Straloch Estate, where there’s the opportunity to enjoy exclusive trout fishing on the loch, take in a game of tennis on the tennis court or go for a stroll through the Millennium Wood. Along with an eclectic range of wildflowers and wildlife, the estate also boasts giant glacial boulders, a 6000-year-old Standing Stone, and an Iron-Age enclosure.
Hind stalking may be available during the season by arrangement with the estate.
