Muckrach Castle was built in 1598 by the second son of John Grant of Freuchie and was the original seat of the Grants of Rothiemurchus whose motto “In God Is All My Trust" can still be seen above the entrance. With its fairytale turrets and stunning views over Strathspey, this 16th century tower house has now been fully and sympathetically restored and will delight any guest wishing to experience the Scottish highlands from a unique and very special property. Enjoy family meals in the fully equipped kitchen with it vaulted ceiling and whitewashed stone walls, or relax beside a roaring fire in the grand hall with its antique pine panelling and traditional furnishings combining comfort with historic grandeur. The spiral stone staircase continues up the castle to the master bedroom with its four-poster bed and two further comfortable twin bedrooms, modern bathrooms and two bunk rooms ideal for children. Set in an acre of ground, this romantic and historic castle, whose walls hold the secrets of by gone times, is a magnificent backdrop to a peaceful and idyllic holiday.
Set within the Cairngorm National Park, the area is one of outstanding natural beauty where many rare species of wild life can be found including golden eagles, crested tits, otters, and red squirrels. Visit the new Osprey Centre at Loch Garten, where a CCTV camera relays ‘live’ pictures of osprey family life during the summer months. Outdoor enthusiasts will love the area with activities ranging from water sports on Loch Insh to Skiing in Scotland Premier Ski resort or enjoy endless bike tracks through breathtaking scenery or conquer a few Munros.
