Perched high on the cliffs at the north end of St Cyrus Bay, with breathtaking views out over the North Sea and across the bay to the Nature Reserve beyond, Rock Hall Fishing Station is probably one of the most unique and wonderful holiday houses one could ever hope to stay in. Converted from an 18th century icehouse and fishing station this house is stuffed full of character and quirky touches, whilst providing fantastically comfortable holiday accommodation that will delight anyone.
Stone flags, vaulted and beamed ceilings, tongue and groove lined walls and a wood burning stove in addition to an eclectic mix of antique furniture, tapestries and collections of interesting items, make this an enchanting house, full of charm with a relaxed ambience.
Five comfortable bedrooms include the converted fisherman’s bothy, still with the original box bed and kitchen fireplace, and together with three wonderful sitting rooms, a games room, sauna and conservatory this is a great house for the idyllic family holiday. Enjoy long meals at the refectory table on the gallery above the music room or gaze at the stunning views out to sea from the sitting room or conservatory, where dolphins and a myriad of seabirds can be spotted and the ever changing sea and skies can be enjoyed whatever the weather.
From the house a pathway leads down to a private beach, perfect for picnics and sand castles, exploring the rock pools and caves, casting for cod from the beach or setting a lobster pot for supper. Above the beach lies the ruins of Kaim of Mathers Castle and beyond lies the long curved beach of St Cyrus Bay where you can walk for miles.
If you can tear yourself away from this enchanting spot the rest of Angus and Aberdeenshire have lots to offer with championship golf courses including Carnoustie only 30 minutes drive, world class salmon rivers, historic properties including the House of Dun, Glamis Castle and Dunottar Castle, or the hills of the Angus Glens. With all of Scotland cities within two hours drive this is an ideal base for a touring holiday of Scotland.
