After leaving the small village or Ardgay you wind your way along a single track road through Strathcarron. The glen is remarkably beautiful and timeless as it heads up into remote countryside. Braelangwell is a sporting lodge half way up the glen and with the river, mountains and moorlands across 4000 acres, is a fabulous holiday destination for those who like the outdoors.
The lodge is a traditionally stone built house with two wings, though essentially one dwelling. The Victorian addition is grand with high ceilings and hosts the main elegant drawing room a formal dining room plus a large kitchen ideal for family dining. The older part was built in 1748 which has original features and low ceilings, with a smaller family room/snug available for children to play or watch TV/DVD’s. The lodge is not luxurious, but is a fine, welcoming holiday house.
The garden is a mystical place with lovely areas laid to lawn, majestic trees and lichen covered branches and walls. There is a large enclosed flat area of lawn making a safe play area for younger children but large enough to play football, croquet etc. A path from the garden leads to one of the most spectacular waterfalls and pools on the river Carron.
You will not tire of the landscape of Strathcarron, there are many fine walks for all abilities, there is the opportunity for trout fishing or stalking on the estate or neighbouring estates (by arrangement). For the Golfers there are the Championship courses of Royal Dornoch or Brora as well as a 9 hole course at the nearest village of Bonar Bridge.
