    Clachan Manse and Studio reviews
We stayed at Clachan Manse 18 years ago so we knew what to expect. This year, we were staying with another family who had never been to the area before and they loved it too. There are plenty of walks for different abilities. Our recommendations: A memorable easy walk is the footpath to Sand where we had a picnic and some of us swam. For keen cyclists, the circuit along the coast road to Shieldaig (café stop at Nanny's) and then back over Bealach Na Ba to Applecross is absolutely unbeatable. Of course, we had a meal at The Applecross Inn which we enjoyed, (but perhaps it was not quite so special as last time?). Unfortunatley, we had to leave on the Wednesday for a funeral but next time I would love to walk in the Applecross Hills. The house is comfortable and well-equipped, with nice crockery and cooking equipment. It was beautifully clean on our arrival. I would have liked a house User Manuel (maybe I just didn't find it?!) with all the information in one place and a laundry basket as I try never to use tumble dryers. I think perhaps that the standard of comfort and décor of the lounge is not quite as good as the lovely bedrooms and bathroom. These are minor concerns! The visit from Mike was appreciated and we felt we could call on someone local for help if we needed it.
    Mrs Firth - August 2017
Great location, great house love Applecross. Very well stocked with crockery, cooking utensils etc all you need for self catering.
    Mrs Syme - August 2017
A great house in a fantastic location for adventures on the Applecross Peninsula. It comfortably accommodated eight adults and all our kit. It has a great view of Applecross bay, with easy access to the beach for walks and swimming. It is also a short walk from the excellent walled garden cafe and Applecross Inn.
    Mr Munn - April 2017
We enjoyed a family get-away with dogs at this amazing place. Special thanks to Mike and Helen Summers who went above and beyond the call of duty!
    Miss Wood - December 2016
Clachan Manse was a great place to stay as a large family group. We were 13 altogether (one in a travel cot!). The kitchen was well equipped with 2 cookers, 2 fridges and plenty of crockery. (Maybe could just do with some plastic plates and bowls for toddlers). One of our party is in a wheelchair, and managed well in the studio. It wouldn't take much to make it easily accessible by adding a ramp into the studio and house. There was a plentiful supply of coal for the wood burner in the studio, which kept it nice and cosy. The setting is stunning with the beach just outside. There is a fantastic sandy beach about 5 minutes drive. Saw lots of seals in sheltered rocky coves.
    Mr Birch - July 2016
We have stayed here once before and loved it so much we had to come back, it is such a beautiful place and setting for the perfect holiday. The house is more than big enough to accommodate everyone and is perfect for two families or one big one. My only gripe is that there is only one double bed and as last time when you have two families it is not ideal, I think it would be much better with two double on the fist floor and the top floor as it is. Apart from that just perfect!
    Mrs Convery - December 2015
It was a amazing place even without electric for 3 days will be saving hard to return.
    Miss Wren - January 2015
Beautiful house in great location with all facilities, however in 2015 you need a better heating, hot water system as I don't think many people now remember how to use night storage heaters and we ended up paying a lot having turned them up when we got there and never understood how to use them. There are no instructions to my knowledge. We will definitely use the house again everything else very good.
    Mr Oakes - December 2014
The setting was absolutely stunning. The facilities included everything we needed. There were great walks close by as well as spectacular scenery within a day's driving distance. The local pub, the Applecross Inn had amazing food, especially seafood, which was reasonably priced. I would come again and recommend it to anyone.
    Mr Mckenzie - December 2013
Feeling good from the very first moment after entering the cottage. Everything was clean and the house, particularly the kitchen is very good equipped. Michael Summer gave us a warm welcome and explained us some technical details. The house lies in the very nice scenery of the Applecross Bay. There are some nice walks around. We liked the food and drinks at the Applecross Inn and also the Walled Garden is very nice. For selfcaterers it`s good to have the little shop at Camusteel. A Trip to Shieldaig leads thru a very nice scenery We will come back sometime
    Mr Ebert - September 2013
A fabulous location for a large gathering of family from all over the UK. House very comfortable and well stocked with all necessities for 12 adults. The only addition we would recommend would be a table and more benches/chairs out in the garden - whilst we were there the weather was superb. Excellent food to be had from the Potting Shed in the Walled Garden as well as at the Applecross Inn. Great seafood at Kishorn Seafood Bar. This is the 4th year we have spent at Clachan Manse and we are in the throes of trying to arrange dates for a trip in 2014!
    Mrs Jarvies - June 2013
Strongly object to having to pay for electricity on top of hire charge. We have travelled the world renting out places and have never had this. Very disappointing and we would not use this property again because of that. It gives Scotland a very poor reputation.
Owners Response: "From Cottages & Castles – we are sorry that you didn’t check all the details before booking as this property has always been advertised with electricity being charged by meter reading. There are still a few properties in the Cottages & Castle portfolio that ask for energy to be charged separately."
    Mrs Balfour-breach - October 2012
We've visted Applecross the last 10 or so summers, first as campers and then as holiday homers as we gained children! It is great and so relaxing. 3 lovely places to eat, wildlife, great cycling and walking, a safe place to let kids roam, lovely clean beaches. The weather is a hit or miss as with all of the West Coast - bring clothes for all seasons and go out whatever. Clachan Manse is lovely and really well equipped. Mike the host is awful nice and very helpful.
    Mrs Evans - July 2012
Clachan Manse is in a beautiful spot on the edge of the bay. Accomodation was mainly excellent except that the living room was not particularly warm and the electricity bill was very high. Mike Summers was excellent very helpful & friendly and gave us a discount on this. Kitchen was exceptionally well equipped and great for dogs Spent the evenings at Bramble cottage. Love Applecross it has a lovely relaxed feel especially Sand Bay and the Applecross Inn which serves excellent food. We will be back
    Miss Goth - December 2011
We all had a wonderful time, the acommodation was perfect, the setting was perfect, weather very good for scotland. Many thanks Mike
    Mr Buckland - September 2011
Excellent accomodation which I would highly recommend.
    Mr Dickinson - August 2011
Very good, best to have bikes as a longish walk to pub. House great but could do with a drying cupboard now that the faulty oil stove has been removed. We had good weather but in a wet hoilday would be hard to dry walking boots etc
    Dr Purdy - July 2011
Clachan Manse is in a great location for exploring Applecross and the whole peninsula. Great walks from the door - short, medium and long. Great eateries/pub within walking distance. The house itself is spacious and comfortable with fresh decor. Suitable for family get togethers with a huge kitchen and the bothy as well. Utility area great for our dog and for wet clothes on the one day of rain that we had.
    Mr Briggs - June 2011
3rd visit to Applecross Estate. Previous 2 in Bramble. The Manse is now our preferred property due to being separate from main house with own garden - ideal with a dog. Would say the stay was absolutely perfect we will have no hesitation in returning for our 4th, 5th , 6th visits. We have three lads (2 teenagers and 1 under 10) and all 3 think it is the most wonderful holiday destination.
    Mr Mathieson - April 2011
