Overlooking the River Findhorn, this Victorian sporting lodge is set amongst 1,800 acres of stunning grounds, including immaculate gardens, native woodland and rugged moors. The property itself dates back to 1886 and has been lovingly renovated to maintain several original features, with south facing views across the valley. Sleeping 18 guests across 12 comfortable bedrooms, it’s a haven for parties of guests seeking adventure without scrimping on comfort.
The property is bursting with period charm and grandeur, featuring traditional details such as wooden panelling, open fires and decorative accessories that hint of the property’s rich sporting history. From vintage rugs to ornate cornicing, each room has a different feel and is furnished accordingly with antique furniture and artwork. Elegant and impressive, it is ideal for celebrations with loved ones as it has everything you need to wine and dine up to 20 guests in style.
Step inside to discover a majestic hall complete with a grand staircase, roaring open fire and beautiful stained-glass window. This really sets the scene for the rest of the ground floor, which has plenty of space for socialising including an impressive drawing room complete with a wood burner, comfy seating and wooden arched windows. The kitchen has a surprisingly contemporary twist, equipped with all the gadgets and worktop space you need to cook up a storm, such as an additional oven to complement the classic AGA-style oven. Dinner is a glamorous affair in the formal dining room, which has the perfect atmosphere for enjoying delicious food and good wine and then with a night cap in hand, guests can enjoy a spot of healthy competition in the billiards room.
Climbing the magnificent staircase to the first floor, you are immediately greeted by an array of comfortable bedrooms. In keeping with the character of the house, they are thoughtfully furnished and charmingly decorated. Two of the bedrooms have a handy en-suite, and families will find the twin bedroom particularly useful as it leads through a single bedroom to a bathroom.
You’ll feel like a Scottish Laird on the second floor, as the sloped ceilings and turrets have stunning views as far as they eye can see. Choose from four snug bedrooms, which share two fabulous bathrooms that will prove irresistible after a hard day of exploring.
A self-contained annexe tucked on the side of the property provides a further three cosy bedrooms, two of which are accessed via a staircase.
The private garden is a treat for guests of all ages with immaculate lawns, pretty gardens and even an all-weather tennis court. Don your walking boots and set off to investigate the scenic trails through native woodland, spotting wildlife as you go. The banks of the river Findhorn are brilliant for fishing, so why not arrange to have a ghillie (a fishing attendant) help you catch some fresh salmon.
