This cottage is positioned on what was once part of the historic and famous Ballachulish slate quarry where slabs of slate would be taken by tram to the shoreline and split to the required thickness. Still standing around the immediate coastline is a fascinating collection of slate workers' boathouses and sheds dating back to the 1860s. Surrounded by some of the most moving and alluring landscapes in Scotland, Ballachulish is an excellent base for exploring Glencoe.

Glencoe village is only a couple of miles away and is the perfect base for exploring the area of Lochaber, known as the Outdoor Capital of the UK. The road through Glencoe takes you through the heart of an ancient volcano. Follow the Glencoe Geotrail to uncover more about how glaciers and blazing explosions formed the glen's rugged mountain peaks. Discover the area by bike, either bring your own or hire from Glencoe Bike Hire. Alternatively, you can find your zen with The Highland Yogi who provides seasonal vinyasa yoga classes, mini-retreats and aerial yoga in the beautiful Glencoe Village (3 miles away).

Discover Glencoe from the water and paddleboard through the lochans and sea lochs with an impressive mountain backdrop. Rugged Paddleboard Glencoe will teach you to paddle while showing you some hidden gems in the area. You can even take a tour of Eilean Munde or The Grand Tour taking in the length of Loch Leven from North Ballachulish to Kinlochleven (3.8 miles away).
