Beautifully laid out cottage with everything you could possibly need. The location is fantastic and the shore is (safely) swimmable for about 2 hours either side of high water. We saw a variety of birds and a couple of seals. The directions to get to the accommodation were spot on! It is best to keep the open fire on the small side, as we managed to smoke ourselves out. The view from the downstairs bedroom is amazing. And it is so private there's no need to pull the curtains, so you can wake up to that lovely vista. We bought some fish from Murray's Smokehouse in Lochgilphead - I would definitely recommend a visit there. All in all, a great break.
    Mrs Aylward - April 2017
We just loved this, so peaceful save birdsong. Really comfortable to stay in. Did not want to leave. Lochgilphead a bit disappointing with regards to finding somewhere to eat out, so we went to Inverary some 20 miles away which had a fantastic place the eat, The George.
    Mrs Gilpin - April 2017
This cottage was perfect for us,everything we needed on one level. It was very comfortable and very well equipped. The only thing I could fault was the bottom bathroom wasn't very clean. The shower doors were dirty and the mirror too and the towel rail was very dusty. There was dirty cutlery in the drawer and I had to empty the dishwasher but it wasn't a big deal and it certainly didn't spoil our holiday.! The garden was a delight to explore and was very well maintained.I wouldn't recommend it for young children. We spent many an hour outside listening to the wildlife and watching the pheasants and rabbits running around the garden and seeing the basking seals at low tide.! It's an ideal peaceful retreat and quite spooky at night as you gaze at the stars in the pitch dark.! Would love to come back in the summer with the lighter evenings.
    Mrs Lee - February 2017
I cannot fault the cottage, my wife and I have stayed in cottages, cabins and lodges around the world and Shore Cottage is our favourite. Seeing a seal while I was unloading on arrival was a sign of what the week had in store. Loads of good walks in the area, recommend the walks around Crinan and the canal. Tarbert is a good spot for walks with a beautiful harbour and the start of the Kintyre trail. Awesome part of the world and an awesome cottage.
    Mr Fletcher - November 2016
Just returned from a weeks stay at this great cottage. Amazing views from front of cottage so peacefull and secluded. Log burner is great for chilly evenings. We saw seals every day many rabbits a couple of deer and many birds. Cottage has everything you need to enjoy your stay. Hopefully we will return in the summer. We would just like to say thankyou to the owners for allowing us to take our two dogs with us . They both enjoyed their stay as much as we did. Carole Malcolm Bobby and Benny.
    Mr Conway - October 2016
The heading sums this cottage up in one word. A truly excellent location right by the loch with no phone signal, lots of lovely scenery and wildlife makes for a thoroughly relaxing holiday. The standard of accommodation is excellent, and improved even more following the recent refurbishment to the kitchen and bathrooms... and all of this at a very reasonable price
    Mr Office - September 2016
The cottage was clean and modem but the mixer taps in kitchen need fixing . The outside dust bins was full all week so we had to take our rubbish elsewhere.
    Mr Tuke - August 2016
Very well appointed cottage, kitchen and showers particularly good. We had wonderful weather for almost the whole week and took advantage of this to explore the many beautiful sea lochs to the west. The Crinan coffee shop is good for coffee and delicious chocolate cake. They also do good snack lunches. Murrays smoked seafood shop in Lochgilphead also has very good fresh fish and shellfish. We also had time to visit some of the fascinating archeological sites in the area. ( the shower trays tend to be very slippery and shower mats would be beneficial )
    Mrs Hamilton - May 2016
It has been an amazing experience to spend a week in this wonderful cottage.. Sadly we could only stay for 5 days instead of a whole week but I would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone who would like to "get away from the daily rush". We will definitely be returning every year.. Can't wait till the next time..!!! Gouri
    Dantu - April 2016
A great week. Gorgeous cottage in a great location
    Miss Squires - June 2015
We stayed here during the first week of June; despite wet, windy and cold weather we had a truly relaxing week. The cottage is private and cosy and is perfectly secluded on the shore of Loch Fyne. No telephone, no wi-Fi, small TV, so we resorted to reading, scrabble and actually having proper conversations!! Accompanied with red wine, single malt whiskey from our ferry trip to Islay and some music it was great. As well as spending the day on Islay (visiting 8 distilleries), We visited the wonderful Crarea Gardens and walked along the Otter Ferry trail. Lochgilphead is a 10 minute drive away and we used the co-op there for our provisions. We found some wonderful beaches whils driving around and the local scenery is stunning. We shall definitely be returning to shore cottage as its very special. The cottage wasn't especially warm in the evenings but we were never cold tucked up in bed.
    Mrs Hustwayte - May 2015
After some trouble finding the place in the dark (the lovely Catherine helped us out by coming to meet us then lending us her torch), we had a fantastic stay at Shore Cottage. The children loved being so near the loch and seeing the seals and crabs and it was a good base from which to explore Argyll and the West Coast. Only thing I would say is keep the open fire on the small side to avoid smoking out the cottage. The heating worked well in any case.
    Ms Macfarlane - December 2014
The cottage is great, very cosy and 'like home'. Fantastic surroundings with possibilities to walk to small island or to find starfishes and mussels and see otters, without even moving from the cottage. Great feel to it and nature that is surrounding it makes this cottage perfect den while escaping stress. Nevertheless it's great adventure space for kids. I hope we will get back there next year!
    Mrs Jelonkiewicz - October 2014
Shore Cottage is a good place to unwind and a cosy retreat at the end of a day out. When we were there it was quiet and, because Pier Cottage appeared to be unoccupied, was completely private. We think, however, some upgrading is required, e.g. the showerhead leaked, the dining chairs were somewhat uncomfortable, and the cooker was rather antiquated. However, none of these observations in any way spoilt our holiday which was one of the best we have had in Scotland.
Owners Response: "       The dining chairs are  standard rash/reed type seats which we thought comfortable enough for dining.     The cooker is what it is and reflects the age of the cottage however we will look at the showerhead leak and rectify. The Cottage   was painted and new cushions and place mats put in at July and is in overall good order as we regularly upgrade the cottages.     We are delighted that you enjyoyed your holiday in Scotland.            "
    Mr Lawson - October 2014
Second visit to Shore cottage, we love this place because it is so peaceful and calm and we will be back again I am sure.
    Mrs Brooks - September 2014
We had a fabulous week at Shore Cottage. The location was perfect, so quiet & peaceful & yet not far from Lochgilphead to get our supplies. My teenage daughter loved hunting for shellfish & crabs, & it is absolutely perfect for dogs, ours spent most of the week on the beach! Inside there is everything you could need. We did struggle on finding it though, the instructions could have been a bit clearer. For anyone going when you have turned off the main road, follow the road until you see a white gate on your right, (the main house will be on your left) turn right at the gate & follow the road down to the cottage. We hope to return :)
Owners Response: "COTTAGES & CASTLES Response: Thank you very much for your review and your comments on the travel directions, we have taken these on board and update the instructions. Thank you from C&C and the properties owner."
    Mrs Irvine - August 2014
Really enjoyed our stay. It is a lovely place in a fantastic location. We did a lot of walking and enjoyed the wildlife. Saw a seal and deer from the cottage and lots of ducks and ducklings. The only criticism I have is the directions to the cottage. It was very very hard to find and when I got to it had nothing to say it was Shore Cottage. It actually had a life ring outside saying castle bay, making me think it was another cottage. Even inside there was nothing to say it was shore cottage - had to read the visitors book to find people mentioning the name. Seems since the trees have been chopped there have been some new tracks which might explain why there directions were not so clear.
    Mrs Stuart - May 2014
Fantastic location and well presented/kitted out cottage. Really feels like you're getting away from it with remote feel however within 3 miles there is a small supermarket/great swimming pool and takaways... Cottage looks out onto 2 small islands that you can get to a low tide(very exciting for the kids) and beach is within 10-feet of the front door with plenty of crabs to discover. Great for kids (our boys aged 6 and 8 asked when we were going back - doesn't get much better than that in a boy's mind!) and also for anyone wanting to wind down. Can't recommend it highly enough.
    Mr Duncan - April 2014
A fantastic location for a couple or a family. The nearness to the Loch creates an amazing location to rest and relax and for children to enjoy the freedom to explore in safety. The cottage is also close enough to Lochgilphead and the facilities available there to allow you to eat out or bring back a takeaway in the evening. The surrounding area is a great place to walk, canoe or just amble around and enjoy the plentiful wildlife in its natural habitat. A brilliant holiday.
    Mr Harrison - April 2014
We spent a wonderful, relaxing week at Shore Cottage and would thoroughly recommend it for those seeking a quiet, restful time. The location is great, right by the loch side. We enjoyed many walks with our dog around the Castleton Estate and also loved cosying up by the log fire each night. If you want to get away from it all and escape city life for a bit, then you will love this cottage. We intend to return, it felt really special.
    Mrs Gilchrist - March 2014
Superb cottage, extremely well equipped in a wonderful location. Although there were only two of us this cottage would be ideal for a family. It has an upstairs bathroom as well as a downstairs shower room with WC and basin. The large master bedroom downstairs, complete with chaise lounge, has lovely view out onto the loch. The upstairs bedroom has three single beds in a very spacious room. The wildlife was good, Roe deer, Red squirrel, seals on the loch and numerous birds. There are many scenic drives to be had from the cottage. We shall certainly return. P.S. The caretaker, Catherine is very helpful and has a good knowledge of the area.
    Mr Street - February 2014
2nd visit and enjoyed by the whole family. Loch side location is stunning. Peacefull and isolated loaction but with access to shops etc with Lochgilphead just 3 miles from the cottage. Tried the trip to Oban going thru LochGilphead to Oban 38 Miles from LochGilhead thru beautifull stunning scenery ( a bit twisty and turney but that only adds to the expeerience. Only concern being what is happening to the Estate itself and how long term that changes and if the property along with Pier Cottage that are up for sale are purchased. Already the area has changed with trees cut down and new roads being put in thru the estate..We met the new owner of the boathouse and Heather Island so my concern is this beautiful locaction will return to Private ownership and will be removed as a holiday let .. Heres hoping they continue to be holiday lets and I will be able to book again and again ....
Owners Response: "The ownership of Peir and Shore Cottages has not changed. They remain under private ownership and are being holiday let."
    Mr Thompson - July 2013
We very much enjoyed Shore Cottage (despite a wet and windy week) The cottage has a lovely location and was very clean and had most of the comforts we look for especially the real fire. The logs, kindling and fire lighters were appreciated. Another good thing is we were left alone - the quiet isolation was great - and yet the paper etc shop was only a few minutes away. The one suggestion we would make is brighter lights in the lounge would be good to facilitate reading. Otherwise we were very happy with everything. Thank you, Andrew and Mary Mathieson.
    Mr Mathieson - January 2013
Lovely cottage, very clean and well stocked. Only problem was fire as it smoked out the cottage and had to stop using it. The fire was one of the reasons we chose Shore Cottage as it was the end of October and a fire would habe been cosy. Also we had some visitors- little mice who were very cute but we had to make sure all the food was secured at night. Otherwise a really lovely situation and beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the Loch.
    Mrs Young - October 2012
The cottage offered a family of four all that was required for a great holiday. The cottage is super clean and well presented. The kitchen is well kitted out for those that like to cook. Both bathrooms were well appointed and spacious, great for getting everyone ready at same time. The view onto the loch from the ground floor bedroom is super! The scenery was better than expected with a range of wildlife to spot whilst sitting on the bench and fishing for small fish and crabs when the tide goes out was great fun. Wild deer, fox, wide variety of birds all visible during our week at Shore cottage, which made it interesting, you never quite know what you will see next! Local amenities a few miles away, lots to do and see, great scenery, tranquility, great cottage, just what we needed.
    Mr Leslie - July 2012
Fabulous location. The cottage is in need of repair, with water ingress and rot evident. There are no curtains in the top bedroom and it was still light at 11pm and light again by 4 am- This was a big issue for my daughter who was unable to sleep. I contacted the caretaker who said that curtains have never been supplied. The crockery is badly chipped. The coffee maker was full of mould. The electrical appliances have not been checked by an electrician and the smoke alarm went off repeatedly when we lit the fire. There are no instructions in relation to working anything in the house and the video/dvd does not work at all.
    Mrs Bond - June 2012
Shore Cottage is in a wonderful, secluded area. It is teeming with wildlife and with the ebb and flow of the tide, scenes and moods change every day. The Cottage itself is very cosy and clean with all you could want for a great holiday. The surrounding areas are worth exploring - steeped in history. Would certainly recommend Shore Cottage for all ages.
    Mrs Burton - June 2012
Cottage was lovely, very clean, everything provided including a "welcome tray." Would certainly recommend it. Only downside was finding it! Instructions need a tweak, after "go through gates, straight on to Shore Cottage" it should read "straight on till you reach white gate on your left, turn left and follow track till you reach cottage" After several attempts we were lucky enough to meet the owner who directed us.
    Mrs Hurst - June 2012
a perfect place for relaxation, so peaceful and beautiful, with so many lovely places to visit. Arran was a brilliant day out and the oyster bar is certainly worth the trip
    Mr Nutley - June 2012
Found the cottage to be very clean, comfotable and well equiped. The loch side location was everything that we hoped for along with an abundance of wildlife outside your window.
    Mr Wilson - October 2011
A very comfortable and tranquil cottage in an idyllic lochside setting.
    Mr Mccullagh - September 2011
its been are second time there we love it the wildlife you see is amazing we hope to be back.
    Mrs Revell - August 2011
Had a Great Hoilday Deer in the garden most days and Heron's nesting on island in front of cottage we will return.
    Mr Hall - June 2011
Really enjoyed our stay here in Shore cottage. The location was stunning - the colours over the loch changed with every hour of the day, the cottage was more than comfortable and the caretakers helpful. Would definitely recommend.
    Mrs Deeley - October 2010
Great location. Located on the shores of Loch Fynne this is a great location to unwind. At low tide it is possible to walk to the island opposite to check out the wild life. The area just to the north of Lochgilpead is rich in history and makes for a great trip. Great walks along the Crinnan canal. However we really were looking forward to sitting by the open fire in the evening.
    Mr Pollard - September 2010
We have travelled to many parts of the world, thiscottage was what I call really getting away from it all.We loved it.All you need is a good book and a large glass of wine and the rest takes care of itself. The wild life was wonderful especially the deers. No traffic noises, and the cottage itself was lovely. We hope to return again one day. First Class..
    Mrs Brooks - July 2010
The only criticism we had was the smell of wood smoke pervaded the cottage, although we never lit the fire. Perhaps the chimney needed sweeping. The cottage was very clean and well equipped and in a delightful setting. If we had been able to obtain a booking this year we would have been staying there again.
    Mr Booth - June 2010
Ideal location for a - get away from it all - holiday. The living room fire needs attention because there was no draw from the chimney, others found this a problem with smoke going back into the room. Good facilities, roomy and comfortable.
    Mr Dobbie - May 2010
