Description

The Coach House is privately located in the beautiful Mochrum Park, The property is a comfortable and cosy self catering holiday home that is greatly enjoyed by families on holiday, fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts. Ideally located to make the most out of the breathtaking Galloway Countryside.

The public rooms are comfortable and welcoming with a hunter multi-fuel stove in the sitting room and patio gardens out from the dining room.  The property has three good size bedrooms and one smaller single bedroom.   The owners privately own salmon fishing which is available by prior arrangement on the River Bladnoch, which is a short walk away as well as their privately owned beat of the River Cree. (please advise if you wish to Salmon fish at the time of booking as an additional charge is paid locally for this and Rod numbers are limited)  Coach House guests have the added bonus of being able to fish for trout at the small fishery at the back of the property.

The countryside around is the beautiful rolling lowlands, the high moors and lovely coastal areas so typical of Dumfries & Galloway so you are spoilt for choice as to what you do.

We have 10 miles of varied and productive fishing on the rivers Bladnoch, Cree and Palnure Burn. Much of this fishing is excellent open flywater with well maintained banks and little need to wade. The Bladnoch is unique amongst the Solway Rivers in producing a Spring run of Salmon.

This is followed by Summer grilse from June on the first spates, with a good build up of fish towards Autumn. The brown trout fishing on the Bladnoch can produce excellent sport particularly on the dry fly. Salmon fishing on the Cree and Palnure can be very rewarding from late Spring onwards.

Please advise at time of booking if salmon fishing is required. Prices from £110pw per rod low season - £140 per rod per week peak season. Spring special offer (pay full price for a house and get 2 free rods) Payable direct to owner.

Two other estate houses of equally good quality are also available for larger parties: The Lodge and The Smithy.

    The Coach House reviews
Great cottage in secluded area - owner called to see us on arrival to explain the wood burner and electric meters etc. so nice to meet him. Many thanks Johnathan.
    Mr Cole - October 2016
Value for money was good but a few minor details didn't quite match what was described on website regarding the facilities provided. An example is the website states duvets and covers, pillow and pillowcase are provided but not sheets so some of our group arrived without a pillowcase and had to improvise using a teeshirt! They had brought a sheet and could so easily have added a pillowcase had the information been accurate. The website implies it is just heaters that £1 coins are required for. In fact it is the whole electricity system including cooker and water heater. We had never needed to turn a heater on so were surprised when the lights etc all suddenly went off. Fortunately we were well prepared with £1 coins. We didn't begrudge paying extra for the electricity as we felt the basic cost was very reasonable but it would be helpful if everyone knew in advance that a supply of £1 coins was needed by every group whether or not they used the heating. We found the house comfortable and suited our group (walking group with age range 45 - 75). It was ideally placed for those wishing to climb the higher hiills of Galloway and for those looking for coastal explorations around the Isle of Whithorn and Mull of Galloway and also for rest (or wet) days when the nearby Wigtown bookshops were visited.
Owners Response: "RESPONSE FROM COTTAGES & CASTLES Thank you for your review for The Coach House and on checking pillow cases are provided but must have been overlooked at the time of your stay - apologies for this. We have now amended our web site to say that all electricity is charged with £1 coins. Overall we are pleased you enjoyed your holiday - thank you"
    Mrs Hendry - June 2016
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, nice to look at a coal fire although there is some effort required to maintain it.The owner was very approachable and helpful and we would certainly consider returning. A few suggestions would be - some litter bins throughout the house, soap at wash hand basins and a clock somewhere. It was also unusual to have to bring all our own bed linen.
    Mr Flett - March 2012
