Cosy living rooms for Autumn/Winter – Scotland

Autumn in Scotland is fully upon us. The trees are turning that beautiful orange/red, the nights are closing in and that cold weather is on its way. You will be looking for cosy living rooms to warm up in!

This time of year can be a bit gloomy for some because Summer is over, the holidays are past and unless you have plans for the October holidays it can be an ‘in between’ period where not much happens. This is a great time of year though, where you should take advantage of the quieter times and get out and do a bit of exploring to avoid the ‘school holiday rush.’

We have sought out some holiday homes with cosy living rooms which are blissful to come back to and relax in after a day of sightseeing and exploring. Sometimes there is nothing nicer than putting your feet up with a blazing open fire crackling in the background. Let us know what you think of these…

‘Ardechive’ is one to watch! Set by the quiet shores of Loch Arkaig and surrounded by dramatic mountains, this enchanting traditional Highland crofter’s cottage has been transformed into a modern, stylish holiday retreat.

Although it has been renovated, many of the original features still remain such as the original thick stone walls and the wood panelling. The lovely large woodburner can keep the living room warm for hours meaning you can relax and warm your toes all night! Check it out.

Spean Bridge. Sleeps 6. From £550/week. 2 pets welcome at £20/week/pet.

‘Tirriemore’ is set on the shores of Lochindorb, a hidden loch deep in the moors of the Scottish Highlands. You can be sure to enjoy lots of wildlife around here making this a birdwatchers paradise!

There is also a ruined castle floating on an island on the loch which will interest the history buffs out there. The house itself is really modern and luxurious inside with its cool, open plan layout and plush furnishings. The snug is where you will want to go for that cosy evening in, relax on the ‘so good you could sink’ sofas with the sound of a crackling fire.

Grantown-On-Spey. Sleeps 6. From £750/week. 2 pets welcome at £20/week/pet.

‘Little Gannochy’ is a hidden gem in Aberdeenshire. This traditional stone-built former estate office has been turned into a charming holiday home filled with only the best of everything.
