Delicious Dining Rooms
At Cottages & Castles we REALLY enjoy our food, and there have already been a few conversations about Christmas Dinner.
Now I know a lot of you don’t like thinking about Christmas too early as it often highlights how much we have to do before the holiday, but when the weather gets colder and the nights draw in sometimes food is what keeps us all going! Just imagine, a big roasted turkey smothered in gravy with a side of potatoes, parsnips and sprouts, cranberry and bread sauce ready to dip…everyone sitting round a big table laughing and eating…everyone together having fun.
We have had a lot of calls this year asking for recommendations for houses with big dining rooms, especially for the larger groups as you want to know that there is going to be enough space for everyone, understandably. So, I have selected 6 spectacular dining rooms to banquet in! Take a look and to find out more about any of the houses featured just click on the photos and you will be taken to the website.
‘Old Milton‘ is a glamorous large house located near Kingussie in the Scottish Highlands. Formerly a sporting lodge, it is now an outstanding holiday home complete with its own golf course and tennis court. There is a fabulous large kitchen where you can do all your prep and cooking, for those of you into your cookers you will be excited to see the AGA – a dream to cook on. The dining room is beautiful, large and spacious with windows to enjoy the gorgeous view from. The large oak table can sit up to 14 comfortably and the floral curtains add a splash of colour while the antler candle holders stand true to the tradition of the lodge. Overall it’s just perfect! Sleeps 14, from £4000/week.
Built in 1996 ‘St Huberts Lodge‘ is a wonderful traditional shooting lodge with a contemporary twist. It has been refurbished to provide stylish and comfortable accommodation and you will see that from the tartan fabrics, traditional carpets, and trendy furnishings used throughout. The dining room is in the perfect position for enjoying the views out over the Perthshire countryside, as it has a full length window at one end of the room. You can watch the sun go down as you all sit round enjoying good food and conversation – just bliss. The kitchen, just to the right is bright and spacious, fully equipped and a lovely setting for preparing all the food that is going to make everyone’s tummies happy! Sleeps 10, from £925/week.
If you are looking for an upmarket holiday home in the Highlands of Scotland that exudes luxury and style ‘Farr House‘ is your house. Sleeping 16 in 8 bedrooms you are promised a bright and spacious nest for you and your group as the standard in which it has been finished is exceptionally high. You will love the crisp white and chrome kitchen which has lovely big windows along one wall letting in plenty of light. There are work tops a plenty which is any cooks dream! The dining room leaves a lot to be desired – who doesn’t want to enjoy a slap up candlelit meal whilst sitting on tartan cushioned chairs and enjoying the blaze from the roaring open fire? Sleeps 16, from £3950/week.
‘Laggandhu‘ is a slightly smaller house to the three before, but is in no way less special. It is located on a conservation estate called Dorback Estate on the outskirts of Nethy Bridge. This traditional stone built cottage has had an extension built on the side, which houses a glorious open plan kitchen/dining room. Those who have stayed here have thoroughly enjoyed preparing the food in the kitchen as their company relaxes with a book or a game at the table. The lovely big windows let lots of light in and also provide a viewpoint out over the trees, hills and heathery moors beyond. Make sure you take notice of the hand painted wood burner – not only does it provide lots of heat, it is absolutely beautiful! Throughout, Laggadhu is delightfully decorated with French influences. Sleeps 6, from £760/week.
‘Binsness‘ has been causing quite a stir recently, especially since the new photos were taken showing its spectacular seaside setting. Many of you didn’t know just how special it was inside, but we are confident after seeing the photos you will be going straight over. The dining room, a lovely shade of sunny yellow, sits between the hallway and the living room and is a charming big room decorated with mahogany side boards and a large centre table easily sitting 10 people. The kitchen has plenty of workspace, an AGA to cook on as well as an electric cooker, and the windows give lovely views of the garden making it a really nice space to spend time. The furnishings and artwork throughout add splashes of colour and character to the already charming holiday home. Sleeps 15, from £2085/week.
We just had to include ‘Middleholms‘ with it’s conservatory dining room, we especially like this one as it’s just so quirky. You can enjoy the views of the garden and woodland from all angles from this room, and what a way to enjoy your meals, whatever the weather! The table seats 10 comfortably on the funky coloured chairs, and it’s a lovely place for you to eat and chat together over a plate of top nosh! The corner couch offer a comfortable spot to stretch out after your meal and the ceiling fans help keep the room cool on the warmer summer days. The kitchen is really big, fully equipped with everything you are going to need to cook that perfect meal, and again, another AGA. We just love them! There is also a dishwasher, which makes the cleaning up a lot more pleasurable! Sleeps 10, from £1175/week.
