Super Scottish Houses!
Throughout Scotland we have fabulous Scottish lodges and large houses, all unique, individual and set in desirable locations. This week we proudly feature four of them and hope you find them as enticing as we do.
Who wants to holiday in a modern but traditional Highland Scottish Lodge where clouds float past overhead, where total seclusion offers nothing but wonderful silence and where views of the sea take your eye as far out as the Scottish outer Hebrides? We do! Perfect for holiday guests who hanker after room to roam and spectacular views, Marino Lodge has it all.
The Owner: “It often feels to me that I am somehow on the moon looking down with a lovely feeling of detachment. Who needs a paper, the news or Wifi? They are, however, all there if needs be…”
This impressive self-catering holiday home provides comfortable accommodation and its warm welcoming vibe makes it a home from home. After excursions out enjoy the lodge and all it has to offer; relaxed lunches around the table with a view, cosy evenings in the living room chatting by the warmth of the crackling open fire, and group cooking in the large well equipped kitchen complete with its very own Aga! During your stay you are looked after by Lin and Colin, who live in a cottage on the drive. They can help you think up expeditions, arrange clay pigeon shooting and even help you read all those on-site maps!! If you want a break from cooking, prepared meals can be organised and slipped into the freezer to await your arrival! (arranged directly with the owners)
The Estate is all yours when you stay in Marino Lodge along with its very own little hill loch, wee rowing boat and brown trout all about a mile away. Highland cattle graze the land peacefully whilst the red deer, their more flighty neighbours, wander the hills behind the lodge itself. You can really become a true Scot, getting stuck into Highland tradition with all of this at your fingertips! In the spring the glen garden and private enclosed garden are at their best having been lovingly looked after for 25 years. Sweet smelling flowers, the greenest of grass and silver birches can satisfy your senses as you enjoy the fresh country air.
The Lodge sleeps 10 comfortably, but can accommodate 12 with the help of some extra comfy camp beds. To find out more about Marino Lodge click here
At the heart of an historic estate, this former Clan MacLeod hunting lodge dates back to 1770. The 5-bedroom Lodge offers traditional comfort with a relaxed and welcoming attitude. The rooms are large and airy, with wonderful views. A generous farmhouse-style kitchen opens onto the idyllic walled garden with its ancient apple and pear trees. The inviting open fire in the sitting room is perfect for relaxing after busy day’s eagle or whale watching around this spectacular coast. The fully enclosed walled garden offers a delightful place to enjoy hot sunny days, family games on the lawn and watching picturesque sunsets.
5 STAR Customer Review: “I loved every second. From the inspiring views over the bay to the roaring log fire in the misty evenings. Ideal large party property with plenty of space and bedrooms. Very secure garden suiting pets and children alike. Remote and idyllic”
This is the ideal base for exploring the world-famous wild land nearby, as well as the whole Island whilst enjoying stunning views of the Western Isles. Despite its secluded location, the lodge is very close to some famous attractions, among them the Three Chimneys Restaurant serving Michelin-star-awarded Scottish cuisine, and Dunvegan Castle – the greatest hebridean stronghold in Scotland. The adjoining deer-fenced young woodland is perfect for dog walking – kids love seeing cows, sheep and geese don’t they?
Nearby attractions include: Neist Point Lighthouse, fastly becoming one of the best places to watch whales, dolphins and sharks from land in Britain; unique Coral Bays; seal watching boat trips in local SAC; marvelous hill-walking, wildlife and bird watching; world-class musicians, The Peat Bog Faeries to name one; and a wealth of artists and craftspeople drawn to live and work in this remote and beautiful area.
