The village of Newton Stewart is within 1 mile and has a good selection of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from.

 

This semi-detached cottage is one of three properties in a stunning elevated position that looks towards Cairnsmore Hill.

 

Situated all on one level, this traditional cottage has a spacious and welcoming farmhouse style kitchen, perfect for making those homecooked family meals. The comfortable lounge is cosy and easy to relax in with patio doors leading out onto the balcony that boasts panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. The bedrooms consist of one king-size with en-suite shower room, one family room with a double and an additional single bed and one twin bedroom. The family bathroom has a shower over the bath.

 

Outside, the cottage benefits from a lovely patio terrace with garden furniture and a BBQ, so you can enjoy the stunning surrounding scenery whilst dining alfresco. Simply sit and relax here for hours watching the ever-changing weather and landscape that is right at your fingertips.

The cottage is located just south of the Galloway Forest Park, established in 1947 and classed as Britain's largest forest park. It is a popular destination for people visiting this area as there is something for the whole family to see and do. Set in the most magnificent setting and home to ancient woodland and native wildlife, the park is somewhere to relax and unwind in a place of sheer natural beauty. If you would like to try your hand at some of the activities available such as cycling, fishing, sailing, kayaking and horse riding, you can book in advance at the Kirroughtree Visitor Centre on-site.

If you are looking to escape for the day to one of the local beaches in the area, Mossyard Beach (14 miles) and Carrick Beach (21 miles) are lovely stretches of sand situated either side of the Big Water of Fleet. Spend a day there relaxing, and simply soak up the sun and sea air with a family picnic or a BBQ.

Further afield but definitely worth a day trip to is the attractive market town of Dumfries (48 miles). Set in picturesque surroundings, this vibrant little town is steeped in history and culture and has an exciting music and arts scene, hosting theatre productions and music festivals all year round. Castles and museums surround its perimeters which you can visit to learn about the history and heritage of this beautiful region of Dumfries and Galloway.

The cottage was warm and spacious. There was plenty of room to navigate a standard self-propelled wheelchair aroound and this included the bathroom. The location is close to a road intersection which means that it is good for exploring the area. The town is small, but well equiped with shopping facilities and a lovely museum.
