Property code: PE173

This romantic and stylish getaway is situated in a secluded spot within the stunning landscape around the Balquhidder Glen, within the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. The River Balvaig meanders by and Loch Lubnaig sits quietly downstream, making this home-from-home a wonderful place to simply relax and reconnect.

The property itself is a lovingly renovated traditional stone cottage, with gorgeous outdoor areas and stylishly furnished rooms inside. Deceptively spacious, light and airy, with original features like exposed beams, a fireplace, and stonework, the old life of the building is preserved and incorporated into a contemporary design.

Head into the ground level and you’ll find the open-plan kitchen and dining room with doors leading out to the garden. It’s an inviting, calming and sociable space, with a glowing wood burner, a romantic table for two in the corner and a modern kitchen with all the appliances and equipment you could need to rustle up a special meal. Head down a few stairs into your lounge, a cosy and tranquil space, with another set of French doors leading out to the patio area, so you can sit in comfort and watch the local birds frolicking at their feeders.

Head along the hallway to discover the hideaway bedroom, up a small set of steps. This luxurious bedroom is decorated in chic tones with classic furniture pieces, including an iron-framed double bed.

Outside the cottage, the outdoor space will give you that extra dose of relaxation. The front garden has a sweet spot of grass with a picnic table for enjoying a meal outside, and another lovely seating area beside the house. At the rear, there’s another patio area where you can delight in a nightcap beside the chiminea.

  • 2 wood burners (first basket of logs supplied)
  • TV with Sky channels, iPod dock, and CD player
  • Ample parking
  • Free fishing on a private stretch of the river accessed by crossing a single tracked road and steep slope – bring your own fishing rods
  • Pubs and shops 2 miles
  • This property will be decorated for Christmas
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00, unless otherwise stated in your arrival details
  • 2 dogs allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week

The area around the cottage is the perfect place to begin your exploration of the Highlands. You're surrounded by lochs, burns, glens, and peaks that will take your breath away, not to mention a labyrinth of hidden woodland trails through ancient, atmospheric forests.

If you fancy a little adventure on the water, you could try your hand at a watersport or two. The village of Lochearnhead sits 5 miles away on the western edge of Loch Earn at the foot of Glen Ogle. It's a great base from which to try something new - take out a boat, learn to kayak, or go hiking around the water. In the summer season, you could even attend the Balquhidder, Lochearnhead and Strathyre Highland Games, a festival showcasing the best of the Scottish spirit.

And if you're feeling even more ambitious, this national park is home to a good few mountains high enough to get your heart racing. Take a dramatic drive to Ben Lomond, for example - at 3,193 feet, it's solid Munro territory and will definitely make your friends back home jealous.

Or for a little more town life, head to Stirling, 24 miles away, where you can enjoy a lovely meal out, take in some art and culture, or soak in the local history at Stirling Castle.
