Situated on the stunning Assynt Peninsula, this charming white-washed cottage enjoys far-reaching views over the valley to the moors. Located at the mid-point of the scenic single-track Assynt coast road between Lochinver and Kylesku, this rural retreat is perfect for families or friends seeking a tranquil base from which to explore the North-West Highlands. Spend the day rock pooling and playing beach games at Clashnessie Bay (4 miles) and stroll upstream to see the 15-foot cascade of Clashnessie Falls. Take in the spectacular scenery in every direction from the Drumbeg Viewpoint (1.5 miles) with panoramic views across Eddachilles Bay and spot the 17th-century Drumbeg Wreck.

Your traditional cottage has a welcoming feel, decorated in neutral tones with bright accents of colour. Many of the rooms look out onto the surrounding countryside, creating a calming and restful atmosphere for you to unwind and forget about the hustle and bustle of modern life.

Enter the property and you will find yourself in the light and airy lounge, where cosy sofas invite you to sink into them and relax in the gentle warmth of the wood burner. Pick up some local produce to prepare in the well-equipped kitchen and share family meals in the bright and airy dining room.

Heading upstairs, you will find two well-appointed bedrooms, a double and a twin and the stylish family bathroom with a shower over the bath.

Step outside to admire the spectacular views from the open grounds of the cottage or spread out your blanket for a spot of stargazing in the open skies overhead. There is also storage for outdoor equipment.

The area surrounding the cottage is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and wildlife spotters, with grazing deer and basking seals frequent visitors to the vicinity. There are scenic walks straight from the doorstep across moorland and through the valley to suit all ages and abilities or hop in the saddle to pedal the coastal road and take in the spectacular views. Spot whales and dolphins as you discover The Old Man or Stoer (9.5 miles), an amazing 70-metre high sea stack or wander the tranquil banks of Loch Drumbeg (1.5 miles) and try your hand at trout-fishing. Challenge yourself with a hike up Suilven (15 miles), one of the most distinctive mountains in the area.

Spend the day at one of the region's beautiful beaches. The soft golden sands at Achmelvich are perfect for sandcastle building and beach games, with clear blue water to slip your toes into. With white sands and turquoise waters, the beach at Clachtoll (7 miles) is truly stunning. Visit the ranger's hut to explore the wildlife and geology of the area or walk along the headland for panoramic views.

Jump on board the ferry from Tarbet (22 miles) to the Handa Island Wildlife Reserve. Wander the island spotting the array of wildlife that make their homes on the dramatic cliffs, including the 100,000 seabirds that return each summer to breed. Watch the playful puffins and magnificent eagles soar overhead and spot otters splashing in the waters below.

Quiet location with comfortable beds and all the equipment you need. Local shop (Drumbeg) has the essentials but have to travel to Lochinver (35min by car) for restaurants and need to book in advance. A good place to stay in fine weather.

What a fantastic stay we had at this farmhouse. Stunning views, wildlife all around including deer in the garden most nights and seals in the loch just down the road. The house was lovely and warm even without the wood burner, although we put that to good use too. The house was lovely inside too with quality fixtures and fitting, premium bedding anRead mored towels. And a great location to explore the north coast of Scotland even over to John OGroats if you like. Wouldnt hesitate to recommend it Hide

Comfortable refurbished house in a beautiful part of Scotland. Very remote but well worth the journey. Everywhere is a drive away and the road is tricky - single track and twisty. House had everything we needed but take extra towels and be prepared to go without Wi-Fi and reliable mobile signal
