Looking down over the harbour in the pretty fishing village of St Monan’s, this second-floor apartment makes the perfect coastal bolthole for a couple looking to escape from day-to-day stresses.

As you enter the living room, throw open the windows and take a seat in the fantastic hanging chair. Listen to the waves lapping and the seagulls squawking, and watch the boats coming in and out of the quay. You’ll feel normal life melt away in a flash. The open-plan living space with exposed beams has a modern kitchen area to the front end with electric oven and a gas hob, plus a fridge/freezer and microwave. The breakfast bar in the centre is perfect for morning coffees and pastries with a view, and at the back of the room is a cosy sitting area with a corner sofa that is crying out to be curled up on with a film or a good book. Those staying for longer – or in the wetter winter months when the sea crashes on the harbour walls and the wind whistles around the eaves, will be glad of the utility room with a washing machine, and the modern bathroom with a large bath and shower attachment. And when the sea-air has worked its magic and the eyes begin to droop, the cute double bedroom with an iron bedstead is just the job.

The apartment looks directly over the quaint working harbour in the centre of St Monan's, which has a handful of local shops and cafes and plenty of activity for a spot of people-watching. Take a stroll along the coast path to St Monan's Windmill, around 1 mile away – and if you fancy having a look inside make sure you ask in the post office for the key before you go. For a longer walk, carry on to Anstruther, 3 miles from the house, which has a bigger selection of pubs and restaurants, including a very popular fish and chip shop. There's also a regular bus service from St Monan's that runs into the evenings which is useful for an evening out, or for the return trip after sampling too many local delights. Browse the interesting exhibits at the Scottish Fisheries Museum, or hop on a ferry to the Isle of May across the Firth of Forth to see the friendly seals and characterful puffin colonies. Walk along the coast path in the opposite direction from the apartment to Elie, 3 miles away, and visit Elie Ness lighthouse and Lady Janet Anstruther's Tower on the headland before enjoying a paddle in the pretty sandy bay. Elie is also home to one of Fife's oldest and prettiest links golf courses.

Great seafront location with uninterrupted vies across the Firth of Forth. There are two flights of stairs up to the flat so perhaps not ideal for everyone.

Had a fantastic week at Fishermans loft. The flat is clean and comfortable with everything we needed, but the best feature had to be the view! Fantastic! We spent hours watching the harbour and sea. Dolphin spotting was one if the highlights. St Monans and neighbouring villages are lovely and the costal path linking them is beautiful. Would love toRead more return. Hide

The location is perfection itself, you could spend hours watching the tide go in and out. Very well stocked with everything you could think of and some things you couldn't. Ideal for couples.
