Escape to this enticing stone holiday home on the Scottish borders, close to the historic market town of Duns. Set within approximately 3,000 scenic acres of the Ellemford Country Estate, this beautifully finished cottage sleeps up to four guests. Enjoy glorious walks – including along the Southern Upland Way, which runs close by – excellent fishing on the Whiteadder Water river as well as proximity to golf courses and a nature reserve, where you can spot a plethora of birds, as well as seals.

Your traditional cottage feels bright and inviting from the moment you step through its front door. Tasteful décor and soft, natural shades enhance rooms already filled with natural light. Internal comfort and a characterful space are complemented by beautiful countryside views.

Pass relaxing evenings in your welcoming lounge where you can light your wood burner to bring a cosy glow to the space. Settle down to watch TV or a DVD in here or simply gaze out towards the river. Spread out into your snug/games room, where guests can watch TV or perhaps set up the PlayStation 3. Your kitchen/diner is another great place to congregate: prepare home-cooked meals in here then enjoy them together at the table. Your kitchen also has a useful washing machine while a dryer and freezer can be found in the utility room.

Follow the cottage-style steep stairs up to the first floor and your two charming and spacious bedrooms, both of which are light and bright. Find your family bathroom also conveniently on this level.

Outside, you’ll be delighted to discover a generous, enclosed garden with plenty of sunshine. Light the BBQ, enjoy a chilled glass of something delicious and watch the children as they play on the grass. Your Scottish cottage also has space for up to two cars to park off the road.

Pull on your walking boots and head straight out from your holiday home for a long walk in the countryside. You could perhaps even attempt a stretch of the 214-mile long South Upland Way, which passes close to the estate. It is Britain's first official coast-to-coast long-distance footpath, and it runs from Portpatrick to Cockburnspath and offers a great variety for both experienced hikers as well as some gentler stretches for families.

Lovers of the great outdoors can also drive 18 miles to the sea to take in the dramatic rocky coastline and clear waters, and perhaps visit St Abb's Head Nature Reserve. Enjoy the stark beauty of nature at its best and spend an hour or two wildlife watching. Travel just over 6.5 miles to delightful Duns, with its handsome architecture and range of colourful independent shops, cafés and restaurants. Visit Edwardian Manderston House while you are here and stroll in its 56 acres of formal and informal gardens. Racing enthusiasts might also like to spend an hour or two at the Jim Clark Motorsport Museum in Duns, which is dedicated to the life and motor racing career of Scotland's first Formula One World Champion.

Otherwise, pack your clubs and drive 28.5 miles to play a round of golf on the course at North Berwick, which has been located here since the 17th century. It's also worth visiting the seaside town while you are here and marvelling at its awe-inspiring views over the Firth of Forth and the Bass Rock, the world's largest northern gannet colony. The town is also home to the Scottish Seabird Centre.

Lovely cottage in very peaceful location. The cottage was dog friendly with enclosed garden which our dog could happily chase a ball. Location was great for us to explore the north east coastline.

Beautiful cottage in a wonderful peaceful location. We loved the peace and quiet. It is beautifully decorated, comfortable and well equipped. The well fenced garden was great for the dogs. Fabulous location, very comfortable cottage with a lovely view across to the woods over the river. There's a very good 10k circular walk that goes past the front door that is worth doing if that's your thing. Duns is a short drive away for little bits of shopping, ice-cream and fish&chips. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with our two dogs. The cottage was warm, cosy and comfortable for our week stay. We arrived and there was a bottle of wine, biscuits and milk gifted to us by Louise. We met Louise on arrival she was so helpful and approachable. The cottage was clean. The cottage had everything you need and makes you feel at home in DuRead morens. Lots of areas to walk your dogs. Dogs not allowed upstairs but this was not a issue as our dogs stayed downstairs together. Highly recommend! Hide

It was a delightful, well equipped cottage on the Ellemford Estate. The garden, although a low fence (3ft) at the front, was fully enclosed, and our dog loved chasing his ball up and down the slope. We didn't use the snug, but it looked well equipped with books, dvds, and a game console. Cleaning items were in a cupboard, tea towels, oven gloves anRead mored washing up items too. You may want to take a hand towel for the kitchen and a towel to wrap your hair in, as there was only a bath and hand towel. Hide

Nice location overlooking a river and woodland. We were quite surprised the cottage was in a terrace and not on its own as we thought it would be a bit more private than it was even though the neighbours were quiet. Beds were clean and comfortable but we felt the cottage would benefit from a bit of up dating to reflect the price we paid
