Historic Morebattle is an exceptional place from which to immerse yourself in the Scottish Borders. Purchase local produce here and enjoy a meal or drink or two at the local inn, subject to limited opening hours. For a wider range of independent shops, venture into Kelso, which is 6 miles away. Here you can wander round the pretty market square filling your shopping bag and enjoying a wider choice of restaurants.

Also take a trip to the ruins of the 12th century Kelso Abbey, while you are here, play golf or even have a day at the races. From Morebattle itself, walk 2 miles to the ruins of Cessford Castle, a striking, 15th-century castle. Keen walkers can also pick up St Cuthbert's Way in the village which stretches from Melrose and Lindisfarne off to the coast of Northumberland. Bridging the border between Scotland and England, this 62.5-mile route joins Melrose, where the saint started his religious life in 650AD, with Holy Island, his final resting place, off the Northumberland coast, and passes through some wonderful scenery. Head about 6 miles to the edge of the Northumberland National Park then explore the area with its rivers, waterfalls and woodland, as well, of course, as Hadrian's Wall. Those who enjoy fishing can also spend time by the rivers closer to home, the Teviot and the Tweed, hoping to catch salmon or trout and relishing some quiet time.

A lovely comfortable and well equipped cottage. Clean and well maintained with modern facilities. Morebattle is a very quiet village with limited opportunities for food shopping and meals out which increases the need for self catering in the cottage or travelling to other nearby villages

Previous remarks apply. Templehall Hotel deserves a favourable mention and especially the excellent Kerry Dixon- Manager. The place is beautifully fitted out but is tragically under patronised especially by the locals of Morebattle. Lovely little property with some great features. Maybe tricky if you are over 6 foot as ceilings are low. Well equipped and located. The village shop is great but the butchers seems to have closed. Fabulous for cycling and walking.
