This pretty single-storey cottage is a beautiful rural retreat for a couple escaping to the Angus countryside for a relaxing break. A family of four with young children would also feel at home here, as it includes an additional twin bedroom accessible via the king-size bedroom. Set amongst open fields, with the local restaurant and shop only 0.5 miles away, you can enjoy a peaceful stay without being feeling cut-off.

Inside the cottage is a welcoming home-from-home, bright throughout and cheerfully decorated with colourful furnishings. Both spacious and comfortable, there is ample room for you to spread out, whether that’s curling up in the lounge or admiring the views from the sunroom.

Return from your day out and head inside to the light and well-equipped kitchen. Plenty of space means you can prepare a romantic meal together, and there’s extra seating at the breakfast bar. Take your dinner through to the lounge/diner, and once you’ve finished move straight from the table to a soft seat. Choose from the DVD selection for a cosy film night in or compete over one of the board games before settling down with a hot drink. Soak in the large walk-in shower and get a good night’s sleep in the charming king-size bedroom (through which you also have access to the twin). The cottage also has a triple-aspect sunroom, so you can spend sunny days and cloudless evenings together there making plans for the days ahead.

In the morning, grab a coffee from the machine in the kitchen and step outside to the seating on the lawn. The enclosed garden is a beautiful spot for taking in the scenery and spotting local wildlife.

Close to the coast, explore the seaside towns and villages, including Monifieth (4.5 miles), Carnoustie (9.5 miles), and Broughty Ferry (5.5 miles) which as well as a lovely sandy beach has an impressive castle. When the weather is good, make a day of it: walk around the town and pop into the independent and family run shops and cafes, discover the town's history inside the castle, and end with an ice cream on the beach.

For woodland walks, Monikie Country Park (5 miles) is a short drive away. Pack a picnic and follow the trails around the two former reservoirs. There's a bird sanctuary for wildlife lovers, so keep your eyes peeled, and thrill-seeking couples should try their hand at the watersports offered by the adventure centre.

Further afield, Arbroath (13.5 miles) boasts the magnificent ruins of an abbey, plus the town itself has a miniature railway and harbour. Spend an entire day at Glamis Castle (12 miles), childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and the setting for Shakespeare's Macbeth (also go to Cawdor Castle).

The vibrant city of Dundee is an 8-mile drive from the cottage, and major attractions include one of the oldest warships in the world, HMS Unicorn, and the V&A design museum. Dundee is recognised as a UNESCO City of Design, so leave some time just to explore.

Beautiful cottage lots of books, games and DVDs for rainy days, lovely garden to sit in on sunny days. Very quiet and peaceful with only the odd tractor of dog walker passing by. Our dog loved the garden and we appreciated the full flower beds with shrubs and planting. Love that everything was on the ground floor, no steps for the less able.

Our second visit this year, with our dog Sunny. Fantastic cottage and great location with views across to the Hills beyond the River Tay. So quiet and perfect dark skies, when the clods clear at night. Within easy reach of a number of beaches from Arbroath to St Andrews. Looking forward to visiting again next year.
