Surrounded by rolling hills and woodland landscapes, this remote area of Scotland is perfect for a romantic getaway. Explore the natural wonders that lie nearby, and visit the local villages and towns for a cultural experience. With an elevated position located on a family-run working farm, this lodge, that is one of two homes, boasts impressive panoramic views.

Quaint and charming, this delightful micro-lodge has been carefully and thoughtfully decorated to ensure a wonderful stay. With a tiled arched roof and lovely wood panel front, this lodge blends beautifully with its surroundings. Furnished in a country living style, this accommodation is cosy and provides a unique holiday experience.

Venturing into the lodge, there is an open-plan layout which makes effective use of space. On one side is a comfortable sofa, so you can sit back and watch the wall-mounted TV or socialize. Opposite is a lovely dining table that folds away if needed, for romantic dinners or casual meals. Bespoke and well-equipped, the kitchen has everything you need for your stay. Tucked behind the lounge with a partial screen is the double bed that enjoys tranquil views through the window, and is comfortable and cosy to ensure a good night of rest. Situated at the far end of the accommodation, the bathroom is more contemporary in style, with a rainfall shower and a WC.

Step back through the front door onto the private decked area, which has a seating area and a gas BBQ so you can dine alfresco and enjoy the fresh air and countryside views. As the sun begins to set, take a dip in the hot tub and try to spot the variety of wildlife such as deer, squirrels, owls and rabbits. Off-road parking is available next to the property.

With the picturesque countryside at your door, there are a plethora of great walks, hikes and even cycling trails to explore. Hike up to the impressive Tinto Hill or Culter Fell, some of the highest hills in central Scotland. To appreciate the views from a new perspective, why not pre-book a Virgin Balloon flight and soar up into the sky.

Other opportunities for those who enjoy the outdoors, include visiting the Pentland Hills Regional Park that is situated 21 miles away from Biggar. Miles of open trails with a range of difficulties pass through meadows, farmland, woodlands, and across hills with spectacular views. A little closer to home, you'll find the River Clyde, with beautiful banks to walk along, as well as fishing and boat trips further downstream.

Biggar itself is a vibrant, historic market town, with a great selection of independent shops and eateries. Learn about the rich history by visiting the wonderful museums including the Biggar and Upper Clydesdale Museum, the Biggar Gasworks Museum and the Albion Museum. The town is well-known for its Victorian puppet theatre, as well as the annual arts festival that takes place every October, called the Biggar Little Festival. Another brilliant celebration that takes place annually is the Hogmanay bonfire that dates back to the pagan times, and is the Scottish equivalent of the New Year celebration. The evening includes a torchlight parade with pipers and drummers, as well as the huge bonfire.

Excellent little pod, well equipped and maintained, in a secluded spot close to the farm steading. The owner was friendly and helpful, yet kept a discrete distance. Biggar is a great wee community with some excellent small-town facilities, but it's not tourist-oriented area. In short, a great place to get away from it all!

Comfortable and tidy micro lodge. Well equipped with fridge/freezer, two ring hob, microwave, kettle and toaster. Gas barbecue (weather prevented us sampling this!) and hot tub. Great location for local sights and selections of pubs and restaurants in nearby Biggar. Highly recommended
