Fabulous mid-terrace stone cottage just half a mile from Lamlash Bay, with front garden views to Holy Isle. It is surrounded by sublime natural beauty, mystical history and fantastic local food.

This pretty mid-terrace stone cottage in the village of Lamlash is a short stroll from the beach less than 0.5 miles away and has fantastic views out over to the Holy Isle from its sunny front garden. The house sleeps three to four, making it ideal for small families who want to enjoy a relaxing beach break or explore Arran and its beautiful coastline and mountains. Lamlash is Arran’s largest village, and a fantastic base on the island. It has a great choice of pubs and restaurants and some independent food and gift shops.

The property is built over two floors. On the semi-open-plan ground floor, there is a cosy living area to the front of the property, with comfortable sofas arranged around a wood burner, which keeps the room warm even on the chilliest of nights. Towards the back is the kitchen/diner. This has a range of contemporary kitchen units and everything you’ll need to whip up hearty breakfasts before you head out to the hills, or warming dinners when you come in from a day on the beach. There is a dining table with space for four to eat in comfort. The family bathroom, which has a shower over the bath, leads from the dining space.

On the first floor, there are two bedrooms, one a single and one a twin. Both have lovely views over either countryside or coast. An extra bed can be arranged if needed.

Outside, there is a mature private garden to the front of the property, with garden furniture and sea views.

In Lamlash, you can easily arrange trips out to sea, including sea kayaking, ferry trips to the Holy Isle and wildlife boat tours around the island's coast. The village attracts adventure-seekers from across Arran. To the north of the village is Lamlash Golf Course, 1.5 miles from the property. There, you can enjoy rounds of golf with spectacular views over the water.

Just 4.5 miles to the north is the village of Brodick. As well as a great choice of pubs and shops, including a supermarket, Brodick has two sandy, family-friendly beaches. Both are wild and dune-backed, with great views over to the mountains. The harbour is a fantastic place to spend a few hours, with fishing boats and plenty of atmosphere.

A little further north, 6.5 miles from the cottage, is Brodick Castle. This National Trust property is a renowned baronial castle set in large grounds. Take a walk along the many woodland trails and look out for waterfalls and red squirrels. From the castle, you can climb up to Goatfell, the island's highest point. It is a surprisingly easy climb with a choice of routes, rewarded by outstanding views.

For those who'd rather stay closer to the sea, the Arran Coastal Way offers some great walking along the island's shore.

A wonderful base to explore this incredible island. Also perfect to hunker down in when the storm set in. It was light and airy whilst being cosy and well equipped. Close to amenities but easy to get to the remote parts. If it wasnt up for sale, we would happily return and recommend to our friends.

The cottage is very cosy and comfortable and nicely decorated. The kitchen is well equipped and all the plates, glasses and dishes etc you could possibly need. The beds were comfy, slept really well. Towels good. We stayed in May, so cooler temperatures, so found the bathroom a little cold at times and the shower over the bath is adequate but not gRead morereat. The views from the windows are not brilliant and the on road parking limiting. Overall we enjoyed our stay at Craigmara and loved the island. Hide

What a wonderful place. Perfect for three and not far from main village. Plenty of amenities. We got lucky with the weather. Drying clothes during a wet spell may be tricky. Otherwise, a fabulous, cosy place on a beautiful island with which we fell in love.
