Sleeping 12 guests, this romantic 700-year-old folly offers a fascinating history, stunning sumptuous interiors, and beautiful surroundings near Doune village in Perthshire. The 16th-century house was originally built for defence and became a residence in the 18th and 19th centuries. It’s welcomed notable guests from Prince Charles Edward Stuart, philosopher David Hume and author Sir Walter Scott. More recently, the cast and crew of the popular TV series ‘Outlander’ have stayed here so you know you’re in good hands for the mightiest of welcomes.
You’ll find character and quirky charms galore alongside large social gathering areas here for your guests to enjoy. Catch up on favourite films or enjoy games in The Long Room, or curl up by the open fire in the sumptuously furnished music room with its rich velvety textures and low-beamed ceilings lending the perfect ambience for a wee dram and banter. As night falls, you’ll find cosy bedrooms in the heart of this castle home and in its tower. If you’re celebrating a special occasion and want spiritual intervention, there’s also a magnificent chapel for hire in the basement.
Step inside and kick off muddy gear in the boot room; there’s also a handy shower room and a music room with a truckle bed on the ground floor - great after long journeys and busy days out. Enjoy brunch and family gatherings in the kitchen and breakfast room which features a handy AGA, and there’s a convenient scullery for extra storage and food preparation. A chest freezer is also available by prior arrangement - handy for grand occasion feasts!
There are two wings upstairs giving that feeling of olde-worlde charm. On one side you’ll find a drawing-room, a formal dining room, and a few steps which lead up to a double bedroom, a family bathroom, and an attic bedroom with a family bedroom featuring a king-size bed and single bed, plus a further family bathroom. On the other side, there’s a family bedroom (with a double and a single bed), and there’s a spectacular Long Room where you and your guests can watch favourite films on the TV with Freeview and DVD player, or have fun with a game of snooker in the games room.
Head outside with your four-legged friend and enjoy a stroll in the enclosed walled garden, or relax with friends and family on the lawn and enjoy this peaceful setting surrounded by acres of parkland on a private estate. Private parking is available for guests, and there’s a vaulted chapel in the basement - ideal for special ceremonies.
