A true escape to nature, this charming coastal cottage is a must-visit location for those looking for a break from city life. In a hidden gem of the North West Highlands, this home is surrounded by water on three sides and boasts remarkable far-reaching views over the Summer Isles and towards the dramatic Torridon Mountains. Sleeping eight guests across four bedrooms, the home is perfectly set out for families with young kids, offering them the chance to explore local wildlife completely carefree.

This coastal home maintains a seaside style throughout, from its whitewashed exterior walls to the bright white floorboards welcoming you into the lounge. The home has a distinct homely feel, combining various patterned fabrics, cosy fur throws and bright colour schemes, such as the vibrant teal bathroom. Any empty stretches of wall have been adorned with fascinating art works, adding to the kooky feel of the home.

All on one level, this bungalow property puts everything you need at your fingertips. Enter first into the spacious lounge, which offers privacy from the kitchen and dining room through a partition wall. Comfy armchairs face towards a large viewing window with wonderful vistas, a perfect spot for watching for local wildlife. Relax in front of the TV/DVD with the charming pen fire flickering away before you. Fill the living space with music by plugging into the iPod dock and head to the kitchen, which is well-equipped to help you feed the family. Seasonally, prawn, crab and lobster can be ordered from local fishermen, meaning you can prepare wonderfully fresh seafood dishes from the comfort of your home. Sit down at the dining table to enjoy this local produce or wake up with a fresh coffee at the casual breakfast table. All four of the property’s bedrooms are on the ground floor, made up of two double and two twin rooms. Each of these bedrooms boasts an individual colour scheme and large widows offer loch and garden views that will be a treat to wake up to each morning.

Head to the rear of the property to enjoy the private enclosed garden with an outdoor play area for young kids. If the weather is on your side then be sure to plan a family BBQ for an evening on your stay, with garden furniture providing a place to dine alfresco and a fire-pit style BBQ for cooking up a feast. To the front of the property is parking space for three cars. The property has an extra garden cottage which is occasionally inhabited by the property’s owner.

There is plenty to do in the area, despite your wonderfully quiet location; if you and your group love the outdoors, this is the place for you. The Summer Isles, which is a group of around 20 islands, rocks and skerries, are ideal for walking and hiking. The closest, Isle Ristol (4 miles), has a long white sandy beach and you can walk there in lower tides. If fishing’s your thing, buy an angling permit and fish at the fresh water lochs around Achiltibuie which hold wild brown trout, sea trout, salmon and artic char. The self-guided Coigach Geotrail takes you on a series of geological excursions around the peninsula while you learn about the oldest rocks in Britain and evidence of a massive asteroid impact. Start from Reiff and make your way down to Achduart (10 miles) over the course of a morning.

Place is in great shape, communication was perfect. The ample information provided was very helpful when ordering fresh, locally caught seafood from the Achiltibuie store. Beds, sheets, linen, towels: All great. Kitchen well equipped. Only reason for 4 out of 5 stars with equipment: The electric stove has not much power; it is virtually impossible Read moreto cook dishes for 8 people that require a lot of boling water. If you want to discover Assynt and Coigach: This is the place! Hide

A wonderful place to unwind and immerse yourself in nature. We really enjoyed our stay. We will really miss our walks on the rough sea in the incomparable Scottish weather. The cottage is very lovingly furnished and well equipped. Sara is a very nice and extremely helpful hostess. We will be very happy to come back :-)
