Escape to the Isle of Barra with a stay in this cosy home-from-home. Set right on the shoreline, the garden gate opens down onto the rocks where guests can fish or launch kayaks into the sea. The island itself boasts a fascinating history, beautiful white sandy beaches and seven lochs.

After a busy day spent exploring the island, return to this cosy bolthole for a relaxing evening in. You will find comfortable rooms with wooden floors, traditional decor and stunning views.

Rustle up a delicious meal in the traditional farmhouse-style kitchen, which looks out over the sea through a charming little window above the sink. Enjoy your Scottish dinner in the separate dining room before hunkering down in front of the Freeview TV in the comfortable lounge.

While the family bathroom is also on the ground floor, the three bedrooms are located upstairs, each of which promise a spectacular elevated view. With fresh neutral decor, carefully coordinated furniture and soft linens, you will wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day's activities.

Located on the peaceful Isle of Barra, this bolthole is perfect for families in search of an idyllic escape from everyday life. One of the most beautiful small islands in Britain, Barra boasts a fascinating history, beautiful white sandy beaches and picturesque lochs. Only 8 miles long and 4 miles wide, you are never far away from the island’s amenities. For something sweet, pop into the post office for one of their famous homemade scones, the perfect way to start or finish a day.

Once a 19th-century fishing port, Castlebay (3 miles) is now a thriving town with shops, hotels, swimming pool and an internet cafe. From here, take to the water with Clearwater Paddling to a world of beautiful islands and sheltered bays or play a round or two on the most westerly golf course in the UK. No visit to Barra is complete without a trip to Kisimul Castle, which dates back to the 15th century and sits proudly on a rock in the middle of Castlebay. Brevig Standing Stone tells the tale of island life gone by. Keen walkers will be spoilt for choice when it comes to this diverse island, from the rugged trails with island views on Heaval (1.5 miles) to the most southerly inhabited island of Vatersay (6 miles), which is accessed via a causeway and boasts sublime beaches. Once you have finished exploring the island itself, hop on a boat to reach the Uists and Benbecula with their hard landscapes, long horizons and big skies.

The cottage was comfortable and was in a good location. As Barra is only a small island, you are only a short drive from either Castlebay, community cafe's, great walks and fantastic beaches. The kettle didnt want to boil on arrival, but this was replaced very quickly (thanks Tresna)

The Scutaig cottage is a cozy amazing place right on the shores of the sea. Check-In is very easy and you feel welcome when entering. The ground is fenced so it is perfect for dogs. The cottage itself is well equipped but certain items such as baking pans were still greasy, that is why we rate the cleanliness with 4* instead of 5*. We also found gaRead morerbage under the beds such as crisp packages and handkerchiefs. Apart from that we can highly recommend the place and will certainly be back soon! Hide

The cottage was comfortable and homely and in a beautiful location. The neighbours were lovely and all the people we met and chatted with were very friendly. The weather was quite changeable whilst we were there, but remained warm. We visited some stunning beaches. We will return to the island at some time in the future.

This cottage is comfortable and a fantastic location however it is very dated and some of things could do with being replaced.

I've been coming over to Barra for 15yrs now. My family are originally from here so I've stayed in alot of holiday rentals and this one has got to be my favourite, just having that view was amazing. We also had a visit from an otter playing on the rocks in front . I will definitely be booking again Thank you
