This pleasant cottage located on the picturesque Fassfern Estate on the north side of Loch Eil is the perfect base for a couple or two friends seeking a comfortable base in the Highlands. With miles of breathtaking walks in the surrounding woodland and around the loch, as well as easy access to the many outdoor activities available at nearby Fort William, including Glen Nevis, this is the ideal spot for an active break.

This single-storey property offers a calm and relaxing stay with its simple décor and uncluttered interior. Clean and fresh, the neutral colour scheme is easy on the eye and the comfortable sofa and beds ensure a restful break.

As you enter the cottage through the front door, you come into the comfortable, open-plan lounge/kitchen/dining room. The neat kitchen area has everything you need for rustling up a few quick meals and the adjacent dining table is a good size for spreading out maps as you plan your day ahead over a coffee. After a day out exploring, kick back and relax with a drink in front of the TV before heading to the twin bedroom for a good night’s sleep. In the morning, enjoy a reinvigorating shower in the bathroom before heading back out into the hills.

Outside there is a lawn, shared with the neighbouring properties, and some picnic benches where you can sit with a refreshing drink in the sun on warmer days as you enjoy the sound of the river rushing under the nearby bridge and breathe in the clean Highland air. Also outside is a useful drying room for drying out damp clothes overnight, and plenty of parking.

Just 5.5 miles away is the small village of Corpach where you will find a Co-op for any essentials. The Caledonian canal meets the loch here and there are superb views to be had towards Ben Nevis in the distance. Further afield, the pretty village of Glenfinnan (8 miles) overlooks Loch Shiel and has a small selection of places to eat and drink. Take a stroll down to the loch and admire the National Trust for Scotland Glenfinnan Monument where the lone Highlander looks over the loch, while behind you, the impressive viaduct carries The Jacobite – the magnificent steam engine that travels from Fort William to Mallaig.

In addition to the local walks and cycle trails, just 9 miles away is the bustling town of Fort William, a huge centre for outdoor activities, offering everything from kayaking and climbing to quad biking and sailing. Just a couple of miles on from Fort William looms Ben Nevis, Scotland's mighty mountain – the highest in the UK at 4,409 feet. For those seeking a gentler stay, take boat trips on Loch Eil or Loche Linnhe and catch a glimpse of the local wildlife including dolphins and red deer.
