This lovely bright and airy, single storey property has been tastefully decorated in a welcoming, contemporary style, with muted greens, golds and blues evoking the natural colours of the Scottish countryside that surrounds the cottage on all sides.

As you enter through the front door, a small hallway leads you into the lovely open-plan kitchen/lounge on your left. Warm and welcoming, this room is a fabulous living space, with a well-equipped kitchen area that has a breakfast bar for relaxed meals, and a lounge area with a futon sofa and armchair. On warm days, wander through the French door and enjoy your morning coffee outside, whilst taking in the breathtaking scenery.

Outside there is plenty of parking space, and there are fabulous walks and bike rides straight from the front door. The track leading to the property – although tarred – is bumpy but still accessible without a 4x4.

Superbly located in a stunning spot, high above the sparkling Glen Esk, this lovely cottage is also within easy access of both the Cairngorms and the beautiful Angus coastline. Walkers of all levels are catered for, with both pleasant strolls as well as more challenging climbs on offer in the nearby Munros (mountains over 3000 feet). The nearby village of Edzell (4.5 miles) is a delight – browse the various antique shops before heading off on a circular walk along Glen Esk. This scenic route takes you through a dramatic gorge and peaceful woodland. At the end, reward yourself with a visit to one of Edzell's charming teashops. Nearby are the remains of 16th-century Edzell Castle. Explore the ruins and look down on the immaculately kept, unique formal garden, with its intricate carvings and decorative plantings.

For a day out, Montrose (16 miles) is just a half-hour drive away. Situated on the coast, this pretty town offers a fabulous beach, a small museum and art gallery, as well as the unique Montrose Basin, a natural lagoon and protected wildlife reserve that is home to thousands of migratory birds.

The nearby village of Fettercairn (7 miles) is exceptionally pretty. Investigate the selection of shops and cafes before perhaps paying a visit to the local distillery where you can take a tour and finish with a wee dram of the excellent single malt.

Being 3 miles off the main road along farm road requires patience and care but is rewarded when you get to the cottage with its peace and tranquility and a variety of wild life. The cottage is spacious, very well appointed and very cosy. The owners have put a lot of thought into making this a home from home.

We had a great Spring break at the Byre. Ahead of our trip, the communication was clear and informative (written directions and description of access road to the property much appreciated). The cottage was well equipped and in a stunning location. We enjoyed the closeness to nature and wildlife. Would come again :-)

A beautiful clean homely cottage in a very lovely location - very thoughtfully equipped and tastefully decorated. The access road was a little challenging in bad weather - but well worth it for the beauty and peacefulness of the location.
