Thoughtfully renovated, this three-bedroom house with jaw-dropping sea views is secluded in the peaceful Scottish Highlands, just 6 miles from John o'' Groats.

Your very own Highland lookout, this house sits right on the Pentland Firth, with land stretching almost right down to the water’s edge. Look out over the tip of Scotland, its craggy islands and shoreline, and enjoy exploring the sights and habitats of this astonishingly wild area.

The house itself is a lovely building: a traditional Scottish structure that’s been lovingly renovated with a conservatory and rooms that really take advantage of its seaside location, letting the light and the views in through feature windows.

Step in and find the bright and cheerful lounge, a lovely place to relax on the sofa in front of the TV.  The kitchen is a sweet space with a family table, great for quick meals together, or for a more majestic tone, take your dinner at the dining table in the conservatory, a beautiful addition to the building with a high peaked roof. Here you can share stories of your day as the Firth stretches out around you.

Upstairs are your bedrooms. The master is a relaxing double, with wood and natural colours designed to feel tranquil and showcase the glorious scenery outside. There are also two twin bedrooms, delightfully decorated with comfy beds and tartan details. All the bedrooms have wash hand basins, useful for getting an early start in the morning.

Outside the property is an enclosed garden, surrounded by a lovely old stone wall, where kids can let off steam to enjoy the Highland air. Ample off-road parking for up to three cars.

From your point on the cliffs, you're in the perfect position to explore this rugged shoreline around the north of Scotland. Less than a mile down the road, you'll find the stunning site of Queen Elizabeth Castle, owned by the Mey Trust. It's a 16th-century fortress, set in stunning grounds right by the sea. Visit the gardens and stop for a reflective break in the gorgeous tea room.

Head east to John O'Groats. 7 miles will bring you to this lovely harbour, famous as the northernmost end of the country, and its seaside village with shops, restaurants, and bits of local maritime history. A mile further and you'll come to Duncansby Head, a gorgeous dramatic cliff edge, with a lighthouse and wonderful wildlife. You can even do a spot of puffin watching; this area of cliffs is one of the few places where Atlantic Puffins breed.

Along the coast, 8.5 miles east of the house, you'll find Dunnet Head, another great bird-watching spot. Stroll around the lighthouse in the Atlantic air and see if you can spot razorbills, seals, or even a killer whale.

If you fancy some town life by the beach, head a little further to Thurso, the northernmost town in Britain, for some seaside amusements, just 14 miles away.

House was beyond delightful and clearly had a lot of thought and interior design knowledge behind the decoration. And the views of the Pentland Firth were simply stunning, even on a gloomy day. The location is quiet and well placed to discover the delights of the whole area.

The Captains House is in a very beautiful coastal part of Caithness, with views towards Dunnet Head and Orkney. Day trips to Orkney leave from John o Groats which is close by. The house is not far from the Castle of Mey where Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother used to take her holidays. Entrance to Castle and gardens is available along with a tearoomRead more, well worth a visit. Very quiet and relaxing to be in this part of the Scotland. Will visit again soon! Hide
